Present yourself to the audience
Crystal Entity was founded in October 2001 and developed itself into a dynamic darkwave band. Our home base is Landgraaf, a city in the south of the Netherlands. In the beginning we played covers of bands like The Sisters Of Mercy and New Model Army. But after a little while we started to write our own songs. The lyrics are written in a metaforic sense. The music varies from intense moments to spheric tranquillity, which contributes in understanding the very essence of the songs. The musical style of our band has been influenced by the early years of goth and wave music. February 2003 we recorded the 4-track demo cd "When Shadows Fall". May 2004 we recorded our first full-length cd "Close To Dawn".
What musicstyle do you prefer personaly and what are your influences ?
Mainly gothic/wave bands from the eighties. For example The Sisters Of Mercy, Fields Of The Nephilim, Joy Division, New Model Army and Christian Death. But we're also influenced by "modern" bands like Placebo and VNV Nation.
What's your opinion about the actual metal-gothic scene ?
First of all, we're not a gothic-metalband. We are a darkwave band with influences from the early years of gothic and wave music. For some superficial reasons people tend to compare us and our music to bands like Within Tempation, Nightwish etcetera. With all respect, in our humble opinion the bands we just mentioned are metal bands with bombastic, symphonic elements. Somehow someone came up with the commercial idea to put the "Gothic" label on this type of bands and make it a hype. But we're not really into hypes.
