Hello, we are Divamee, a female fronted German band concentrating mostly on rock and electronic music styles. We are Lysz and Hannes.
Who composes ?...How does it work in the band ?
In 2008 we released our 1st and still only CD entitled “Experiment”: while Hannes just started composing at that time there were only two complete songs created by him. But he composed nearly all vocal lines. Although we were absolutely happy and thankful then about getting all other instrumentals from different musicians we knew today we neither want nor need such collaborations anymore. Nowadays Hannes is composing our songs including vocal lines in his own sound studio. He records himself playing bass guitar, electric guitar, and several synthesizers. Just sometimes he asks our live musicians to play an instrument. At the end he records me singing my parts – and I do the same with him. That´s it!
Who writes the texts ?..What are they talking about ?..How does inspiration come ?
The texts are written by me (Lysz). The lyrics in 2008 were mainly about some of my own experiences respectively against sexual abuse of children, cruelty to animals, and ecological destruction. You can still find some of these topics in the songs of our 2nd CD “Fusion” that we hope to finish in 2015. For me music is a wonderful way to handle what happened to me and what touches me – so the main focus in the actual lyrics is on private experiences. Without personal development and without an exciting life I´m sure I would loose the source of any inspiration...
Why the name DIVAMEE ?
This name is a creation of Hannes. On the one hand he associated the name “Diva” with me (don´t ask me why...). On the other hand my big eyes reminded him of anime (Japanese animated film). To let our band name look in a better way we put just another “e” on its end.
What are your personal musical tastes and your influences ?
To make it easy Hannes prefers rock music and I prefer electronic music. Therefore my main task is to put as much electronic music into Divamee as possible – and I guess it works even I have to fight sometimes a little bit... But most influences come from bands like Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson, and Muse.
What's your opinion about the current music scene in Germany ?
It´s hard to become a star! No, seriously I guess the difficulties in Germany are nearly the same like in other countries... Musicians and organizers are moaning due to some legal barriers and due to financial aspects. And they´re absolutely right. But like everywhere else you have to do two things: first you have to fight for your luck and second you have to work, work, and work. For the most of us doing music is just an expensive and time-consuming hobby. My opinion is if you want to get some fame you have to do enough for it. And in Germany it´s absolutely possible to get your piece of fame...
Generally, what's the reaction of the public during your concerts ?
Even there are always some real fans in the audience most people doesn´t know us before our concerts. And even I don´t know if it is an advantage or disadvantage I have to tell that our music is no “light stuff”: our sophisticated arrangements rarely follow established song structures and invite the listener to delve into Divamee´s music again and again. Of course this is not possible during only one concert so the audience is listening to our music very attentively. Okay, to be honest there are of course also people who like to dance and to party even if they´re listening to us for their first time...
What's your best live memory ? And why ?
In the beginning of 2008 we were invited to play in Den Helder (NL) – thanks to myspace. These lovely crazy Dutch people were dancing during our whole concert while we had some technical problems on stage. But I´m quite sure they even didn´t notice that... We had a wonderful night together with them!
