Present yourself to the readers
Nicky Sharks – Vocals and Guitar
Cory Sharks – Lead Guitar
AvB – Bass
Steven Stich – Drums
(The band will collectively answer the questions in this interview.)
Who composes ?...How does it work in the band ?
Musically, we all compose and arrange the songs. The process definitely varies. The idea for a whole song can come from a guitar/bass riff, or a drum part that everyone builds on. However, sometimes Nicky will bring complete songs to the table.
Who writes the texts ?..What are they talking about ?..How does inspiration come ?
Nicky Sharks writes all the lyrics but occasionally asks for input from the rest of us. Most of the lyrics are a mix of comedy and tragedy. We always try to write about identifiable topics. Inspiration comes from anything like movies, art, real life experiences, etc…
Why the name MAKE A SCENE ?
It actually took us a long time to find a band name that we were happy with. Make A Scene was originally a song title, but we preferred it as a band name. It seemed to speak for itself which is to be yourself and to stand up for what you believe in.
What are your personal musical tastes and your influences ?
We are literally influenced by anything and everything, including each other.
Generally, what's the reaction of the public during your concerts ?
Well, there’s always those people standing in the back with their arms crossed and an unimpressed look on their faces, but usually we get an amazing and positive response. People always compliment our high-energy live show and thank us for bringing the ladies!
What's your best live memory ? And why ?
One of our favorite memories is the time a guy proposed to his girlfriend on stage during our set. (She said yes) But the fans always tell us that the most memorible thing is that it’s always a party at a Make A Scene show.
What are your future dates ?
All future dates will be released this year. (2017)
In studio, what was the ambiance for the GREAT album STAY GOLD, BLEED BLACK ?...etc.…
The vibe during the recording was great. We went in completely prepared knowing exactly what we wanted to do and just knocked it out. Fun fact: Nicky Sharks had images on his phone that reminded him of each song on the album that he would look at in the vocal booth to get into the zone before recording… oh, and pizza!
How does it work for the beautiful design of the CD ? and why this title ?
We hired a freelance model to do the album cover, and we did all the editing, photography, text, and layout ourselves. “Stay Gold, Bleed Black” is based off the balance between the two polar opposites of whatever you want. For us, we are judged a lot for looking the way we do and get viewed as misfits or hooligans for having tattoos and dressing in black, but you should never judge someone by their appearance above their actions. “Stay Gold” means to stay young, be positive and have heart. “Bleed Black” means to bleed out negativity and that it’s ok to be wild, just stay safe while doing it!
With Management and booking, how do you work ? And with whom ?
We actually manage and book everything ourselves. Welcome to the age of D.I.Y.
What are your projects ?
We have a whole bunch of new things coming up this year. Brand new merchandise, shows/tour, new music, etc…
What do you expect from the future ?
We hope that some of your readers will check us out after reading this interview!
What's your motto ?
