Present yourself to the readers
Hello Readers! We are The Voodoo Fix from Los Angeles. We live in Nashville where we write and record music. We would like to continue to tour our country, Europe and the whole world!
Who composes ?...How does it work in the band ?
Everyone in the band composes in one way or another. Every song is written differently but we try and involve everyone in the process. Typically our songs start with the groove between the bass and drums, sometimes guitar. Once the main 'grooves' are established, we create the structure or skeleton of the song, complete with verses, choruses, pre-chorus, bridges, solos, etc. Vocal melodies are established once the there is some structure to the song and lyrics are created last to fit in the melodies. Harmonies are layered on from there.
Who writes the texts ?..What are they talking about ?..How does inspiration come ?
Many songs have lyrics written by Abe, Scott and myself(Will), others have predominantly one author. I wrote the verses to The Curse and I Was Wrong and they were both inspired by very painful breakups, but reflected very differently. The Curse is very lighthearted, even fun whereas I Was Wrong is dark, painful and dramatic. Every song has a different story, sometimes there are multiple stories by multiple authors in the same song.
Why the name THE VOODOO FIX ?
We felt 'Voodoo' reflected the bluesy sound we created when we first came together as a band and 'fix' was suggested by Abe, taken from Allen Ginsburg's poem, Howl. He spoke about people getting their 'fix' like a drug, similar to how music can be like a drug because of the relief and euphoria it provides.
What are your personal musical tastes and your influences ?
I am partial to funk and rock music. The red hot chili peppers and led Zeppelin are among my favorites.
Generally, what's the reaction of the public during your concerts ?
Very positive! We try hard to make people excited, dance, move and shout.
What's your best live memory ? And why ?
We had a show in San Francisco at the late John Zlee Hooker's club, The Boom Boom Room. We happened to have a ton of old college friends in attendance who knew us and the band since its formation. That night was a reunion and the energy and love was on another level.
What are your future dates ?
We just played with Fantastic Negrito in Nashville and Memphis. We will be heading to the American North East in 2 weeks and touring nationally and internationally in 2017.
