Present yourself to the readers

Hello Readers! We are The Voodoo Fix from Los Angeles. We live in Nashville where we write and record music. We would like to continue to tour our country, Europe and the whole world!

Who composes ?...How does it work in the band ?

Everyone in the band composes in one way or another. Every song is written differently but we try and involve everyone in the process. Typically our songs start with the groove between the bass and drums, sometimes guitar. Once the main 'grooves' are established, we create the structure or skeleton of the song, complete with verses, choruses, pre-chorus, bridges, solos, etc. Vocal melodies are established once the there is some structure to the song and lyrics are created last to fit in the melodies. Harmonies are layered on from there.

Who writes the texts ?..What are they talking about ?..How does inspiration come ?

Many songs have lyrics written by Abe, Scott and myself(Will), others have predominantly one author. I wrote the verses to The Curse and I Was Wrong and they were both inspired by very painful breakups, but reflected very differently. The Curse is very lighthearted, even fun whereas I Was Wrong is dark, painful and dramatic. Every song has a different story, sometimes there are multiple stories by multiple authors in the same song.

Why the name THE VOODOO FIX ?

We felt 'Voodoo' reflected the bluesy sound we created when we first came together as a band and 'fix' was suggested by Abe, taken from Allen Ginsburg's poem, Howl. He spoke about people getting their 'fix' like a drug, similar to how music can be like a drug because of the relief and euphoria it provides.

What are your personal musical tastes and your influences ?

I am partial to funk and rock music. The red hot chili peppers and led Zeppelin are among my favorites.

Generally, what's the reaction of the public during your concerts ?

Very positive! We try hard to make people excited, dance, move and shout.

What's your best live memory ? And why ?

We had a show in San Francisco at the late John Zlee Hooker's club, The Boom Boom Room. We happened to have a ton of old college friends in attendance who knew us and the band since its formation. That night was a reunion and the energy and love was on another level.

What are your future dates ?

We just played with Fantastic Negrito in Nashville and Memphis. We will be heading to the American North East in 2 weeks and touring nationally and internationally in 2017.

In studio, what was the ambiance for your great album IN DEEP ?...etc.…

We recorded the songs for that album in several studios- hilltop(Nashville, TN), Royal Studios (Memphis, TN), the Nutt House (Muscle Shoals, AL). All were great for different reasons, very warm, positive ambiance in all of those studios.

How does it work for the design of the CD ? and why this title ?

The title felt appropriate because after 10 years of touring, recording, packing up everything in LA to move to Nashville we were literally 'In Deep'. Too far along to look back or think twice. For the album cover we wanted something clean and simple. We designed ourselves to finish it promptly.

With Management and booking, how do you work ? And with whom ?

In the states we book our own shows and tours. Black Pike Favorites handles booking and tour management in Europe.

What are your projects ?

We are currently working on our next record, 'Back For More' due out next Spring!

What do you expect from the future ?

Highs and lows, that is life!

What's your motto ?

'If it feels good, it's good'
