Introduce you to the readers
Hi ,we are Dyscordia from Kortrijk, West Flanders. Risen from the ashes of former acts like Gwyllion, Artrach, Double Diamond, Impedigon, Varangian.. We started in 2009 and we play a mixture of power and progressive metal with death metal influences. Along with the clean vocals from Piet we have Fane on grunts and guitar. Martijn on the second guitar and backing vocal, lead guitarplayer Guy on the third. Bassplayer and backing vocal Noteleire and on the drums we have Wouter D.
Who composes ? How does it work in the band ?
Gratitude goes to Martijn and Guy who compose the most of the songs. But everybody has given input at one point. Each of us have written parts of songs or given leads to start with. Every song starts with that one good idea.
Who writes the texts ? About what are they talking ? How does inspiration comes ?
Piet writes most of the lyrics. He gets a complete free pass when it comes to the content. On the album Twin Symbiosis he put in some kind of concept. The theme was about a little boy, suffering from Schizofrenia. The boy has an imaginary friend who stands with him during his life. It's about relationships, conflicts, good and bad times. Everybody can find themselves in his lyrics at some point.
Why the name DYSCORDIA ?
The name can actually represent what Dyscordia is. The word discord or disorder reflects the contrast of the vocals we use and the arrangements we bring. Wouter came up with the name, it felt right.
What are your musical tastes and influences ?
We all like various music, but when it comes to Dyscordia I think you can find some Opeth there, Nevermore, Blind Guardian, Pain of salvation..
What's your view on the current music scene here in Belgium ?
It's a various scene and I think we have alot of talent here. I don't think that Belgium will be the new next Mecca for metal very soon but we have truckloads of young bands fighting their way up. One can only encourage that. Ofcourse this also makes it difficult for the bands to stand out. But persistance can still be rewarding.
Generally, what's the public reaction during your concerts ?
The public are the most important people of the whole scene. Without them the bands would be worthless and I think we are lucky to have such a devoted group of people that come to our shows and enjoy our music and what we do. We're thankful for every soul we can move and it's these little things that keeps us going. Our goal is complete when everybody had a good time.
What's your best live memory ? Why ?
This year we had the honor to play on the Graspop Metal Meeting festival. That was amazing.
