Introduce you to the readers
I'm Cis the guitarplayer in steak.
Who composes ?...How does it work in the band ?
Mainly it's Brent who comes up with ideas already made on computer. For instance : He sends a song through dropbox to us , we check it and in the rehearsal we play ( or try to play :-D ) the song. During the rehearsal loads of different stuff is added or we leave parts away. Somethimes we rehearse a song one day and the next day it sucks balls. ..Who doesn't try doesn't know
Who writes the texts ?..What are they talking about ?..How does inspiration come ?
Brent writes his lyrics most of the time. The whole lyrics thing isn't talking about what happens in the world and other subjects people like to sing about. It's more about how we experience daily stuff. Stuff as in nature, discovering other music, family, friends,.. Just the good and the bad things that happen. If you hear our song you'll hear more about the bad stuff than the good but that doesn't mean we're depressed or so. It's just a way of expression. For our upcoming album we'll try to write lyrics together at some parts.
Why the name STEAK NUMBER EIGHT ?
I think it's the most asked question. Steak number eight on itself might not say you anything but there's a story behind it. Brent's brother Toby used to play in a band Voidpoint. Voidpoint had a song called 'Steak Number Eight'. Back then we liked the name and made i tour bandname. A few years later Brent's brother died in an accident. It was a big lost to all of us so we kept Steak Number Eight as our bandname. Steak number eight is a tribute to brent's brother Toby.
What are your personnal musical tastes and your influences ?
My personal favorite band is Mastodon. My other influences are Converge ( and a lot of Kurt ballou-ish music), Neurosis, Doomriders, Gallows,Beastmilk,Sleep, Generations of vipers, Rory Gallagher, Nick Cave, Black keys ( older stuff) . Basiclly I'm naming the bands what I'm listening now. There are so much more..
What's your view on the current music scene here in Belgium ?
I'm surprised how many big and little festivals there are which is very good. The more you bring music to people the more they explore new stuff, that's good. Although Belgian radios play everyday the same hits/ pop music and so call 'heavy guitars' which is pretty pathetic if you know there are thoussand of more and better songs to play on a radio. I recommend everybody stuff as Bandcamp and last. Fm Before you know the band you are listening to plays in your town for free. That hapens a lot in Belgium but you have to find them gigs. Venues as Trix Antwerp and De Kreun kortrijk are amazing. I give Belgium a 6 out of 10 for music scene
Generally, what's the reaction of the public during your concerts ?
Some people bang there heads. Some people listen very carefully and close their eyes. These are the most things you see in the crowd.
What's your best live memory ? And why ?
Graspop 2013 and Pukkelpop 2013 The crowd went off their heads. We used pyrotechnics and there were a lot of people. You can't describe how amazing this is.
And the worst one ?
We played a show in Stratsbourg once, in a basement. One guy showed up. It was our tourmanager.
What's your ideal concert poster ? (with you of course !)
Lemme see. Mastodon Gojira Converge Steak Number Eight And a after party with Daft punk That would be great
