Present yourself to the audience

Hi everybody, I'm MIRI MILMAN (known as the red head) - female vocalist of DISTORTED from Israel.
We are a melodic death/doom metal with oriental influences.
I'm 23.5 years old (born on October 3, 1982)
I had started with my singing career when I was 14 years old and I joined the band on 1998. I met my DISTORTED brothers in high school (we all went to the same high-school).
I consider myself as a musician since I was 4 years old.
At first I had big plans for being a famous pianist but over the years
I understood my passion for singing.
I also used to play the guitar but on the last few years I try to focus as much as I can on being a singer.
Being a singer is a lot of fun and excitement but it also means a lot of hard work and limitations.
You probably ask what are my limitations? So let me tell you all about it.

  • Before shows I never ever drink alcohol, only water or tea.
  • I almost don't drink milk only soy milk.
  • I don't smoke or get near to people who smoke.
  • I try not to eat chocolate
  • I try not to speak loud

Besides that, I do a lot of breathing exercises and vocal lessons.
Besides being a singer I am also a graphics designer. (I do almost the entire artwork of DISTORTED) sometimes it's hard for me to do designs for my own band because I'm too involved with every matter and every little detail so I prefer to give some work to other professional people that sometimes looks at things in an other perspectives.
I love my life. I love My DISTORTED Family and friends, especially my fans.
Although it may appear from the lyrics that I write that I am a sad person, actually I'm not. I really trying to be a funny person who likes to laugh and to do fun things.
Ok...enough about me :-)
I also like to share my life with my fans cause it is very important to me that my fans will feel connected to me and our music.

What musicstyle do you prefer personaly and what are your influences ?

As a musician I like to listen to all kinds of music. Metal of course!!!
I like almost all genres. My big influences are doom metal bands such as: My Dying Bride, Anathema, November's doom, the old Theatre of Tragedy and the Gathering but on the last two year I had been sucked into the metal core world!! You will find a lot Meshuggah albums, Killswitch Engage and Soilwork.
My true love over the 5 last years is: NEVERMORE and OPETH -
Two amazing and unique bands.
My Metal influences as a singer first began with Anneke Van Giersbergen (The Gathering)
She is an amazing singer! And she always improves herself from album to album and I really appreciate it.
I am also very influenced by Warrel Dane (Nevermore) and a portuguese singer called Dolce Pontes.

What's your opinion about the actual metal scene in Israel ?

Good question!
I think that we have a wonderful scene. Although it isn't that big - it is special! People are really devoted to music and they are really crazy when they like a band.
At first when we started to play concerts, we had only 5-10 people in the crowd, because the scene had died after 1996, but today our scene is bigger than ever! It has been awaken from its deep sleep, and it's amazing to see the differences in each concert. Every time I see new faces.

Miri Milman

What is your best live memorie ? And why ?

Not sure I understood the meaning of the question so I will answer in both ways.
The best live performance I remember is Metalist Festival 2005 and the "Memorial" release concert in Israel.
The crowd was fucking amazing in both shows !!! They really got into our music and sang with us the entire show !!!
Till far The best memory I have is being in Paris lately :-)

What would be the festival of your dreams ? (with you playing in it of course !)

My Dream Festival will be WACKEN Open Air 2006 !!!
This year a lot of my favourite bands will be playing there
So I wish I could perform on the same stage with them.

What do you expect from the future ?

What I wish for myself is to always keep on doing what I love and believe in without compromises. To keep on doing music till I die.
To see myself on the biggest stages all over the world and to achieve every goal.
To remain honest and human and to never forget my roots.

What is your motto in life ?

To live Life !!!
Life is short and you may never know when it will end
So do what ever you feel like without hurting anyone
And don't feel bad about mistakes. Learn and move on!

Is there something you'd like to say to the audience ?

Yep in fact there is!
Please Listen to Memorial and try to get into it although it is sometimes hard to understand it in the begining.
Be open minded about music and don't judge anything from other opinions but your own!
And please visit Israel, it is not scary as it showed on T.V - we have a beautiful country !!!
Thank you for cool interview!!!
Great questions.
Miri

Thanks for the upkeep
