Advena Lupus is a Norwegian/International music cooperation playing gothic heavy rock.
Who composes ?...How does it work in the band ?
Mr.Gangdal is the vocalist and plays the rhythm guitar. He is the one to blame for composing the songs, and the creation of Advena Lupus. The mastermind behind lead guitar is Juan Carrizo, Diego Quarantotto is the mastermind behind the bass, and Tom DuPree III is the mastermind behind the drums. We met online, and have never been in the same room. So the live version of the band will be slightly different than it is on the album that’s out now on all streaming services.
Who writes the texts ?..What are they talking about ?..How does inspiration come ?
Mr.Gangdal writes the texts. Most of it are a brief look on the world seen thru the eyes off mr.Gangdal. Its easy to find inspiration to the theme of the lyrics when there are so much stupid things happening on mother earth today.
Why the name ADVENA LUPUS ?
Advena Lupus is latin and it means strange wolf. We should not be afraid of what is strange. The cure for this is to really getting known to what is strange.
What are your personal musical tastes and your influences ?
My heart beats for metal music, but I also find inspiration in Morrissey and Klaus Nomi. My mind was blown away the first time I heard Mayhem’s Deathcrush EP. The opening felt like the end of the world and the vocal of Dead is amazing. Well all of the musicians in that lineup is amazing. Love Mayhem, it gives me a lot of inspiration. The same goes with thees band: Darkthrone, Dimmu Borgir, Venom, Black Sabbath, Mercyful Fate, King Diamond, W.A.S.P, Iron Maiden, Metallica and Rainbow.
I guess my musical taste and influences are entwined. During the past week I've been listening to the New Aristocrats, Snarky Puppy, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Nick Johnston and Steve Reich. My go to genre continues to be Metal in all of its shades. A Maiden fan for 20 years now but yet trying to listen new bands all the time -both new and old-, one of my latest discoveries is Mestis, a side project from Javier Reyes. One of my favorite sides of working with remote musicians is that they let me in their musical neighborhood and I get to know music otherwise inaccessible for me.
In studio, what was the atmosphere for your album ?...etc.…
Had a great time in my studio or my little house. Tried to copy the atmosphere in the song to my surroundings when I recorded the rhythm guitar and vocal. So even if I was alone when recording the song «Party with Dracula», it truly was a party in the room and in my head. Every time when I got back the other musicians tracks I was amazed by there great job, and they really took the songs to the next level it needed. Therefor the atmosphere was rocket high in the studio.
It was a joy of a project to work with, I liked the music, mr.Gangdal liked what I was bringing to the game so everything went smooth.I guess thats thanks to our common musical background. I usually started the day listening a lot to the draft of the song I would work, then recording my usual "jam take" to catch some fresh top of mind ideas. Work on that and send too mr.Gangdal. He was kind enough to give me total creative freedom so that was both great and nightmare-ish when choosing what to send.
How does it work for the design of the CD ? and why this title ?
Well the design for our first album is a photography taken by mr.Gangdal, and the logo made by his sister Siv Gangdal. The logo point towards something that could be a bat cave or Draculas home. The road suits well for the theme on the song «A Way out of Here». It's our first album, and therefor self-titled.
