What’s the story for THE DEPTH ?
The album began to be created while still working on the previous release, “Do Utra,” it was brought to mind for a very long time and was being recorded for almost three years. It has been a pretty long road in the dunes. In addition, we always know how to relax and to fantasize on musical themes of other bands. The main idea and the main song, the Depth of the same name, tells the story of the fate of naval sailors in distress in the depths of the sea. We made a lot of efforts to make the whole album sound conceptually and seamlessly around this theme.
Who composes ?...How does it work in the band ?
On the last two albums, Evgeny is most often responsible for the composition, he writes the main melody or invents a riff, then the other participants try, to the best of their ability, to spoil the original idea, to bring something of their own. In the end, after some joint reflection, everything is transformed beyond recognition and then we all think “That s it!” Sometimes we cannot focus on one specific vision of a song and make several (often two) versions, each of which we like in our own way, and we provide the listener with an ultimate judgment, which one turned out better. In the end, something takes root and continues to live, and something goes into the abyss.
Who writes the texts ?..What are they talking about ?..How does inspiration come ?
Here, just like with music, the main idea comes from the frontman and the other participants often bring in completely unexpected dramatic moments that put everything upside down. In our songs we touch upon various aspects, often psychological, of a person’s life in a modern “civilized” society. About the relationship between man and woman, betrayal and unrequited love. In addition, the theme of heroism and selflessness is a definite line in The Depth. Topics come from everyday life as well as from the news background, the global political environment, as well as from the movie, video and game industry.
Why the name MAGIK BRITE?
This is like short-term enlightenment, or that feeling when you get from a very dark place to a very bright light. At some point, the world is transformed and you see only the “magic bright” that hides all the flaws and deficiencies of the real world.
What are your personal musical tastes and your influences ?
We think that we have long passed by the barrier of influence. Of course, us, like all musicians, went through the stage of admiration and were inspired by the songs of other musicians, but over the years this has turned into a mix in our vision of our own ideas for songs. On the whole, of course, we love to listen to a lot of diverse music, but we do not live in an absolute vacuum, but the genres are so different that it is difficult to set any priorities. But to find out what influenced us, easily listening to our versions of songs of other groups. We choose the songs that we really like. Many of them have become our “mentors” in the past.
What's your best live memory ? And why ?
We rarely perform and probably the most interesting memories when turbulent afterparty happen =) However, any of our concerts is a big event and often it is always full of a positive aftertaste!
In studio, what was the atmosphere for your new album ?...etc.…
Usually the songs are born in Evgeny’s head, but we often work on them for a long period often improve something, and sometimes rewrite them. On the last album I had to work a lot of what is called offline. We recorded the initial parts of the drums when we thought that the songs were already quite ready, and then for a long time on the Internet we exchanged our best practices between the band members. For example, the final version of the bass was completely recorded in the bedroom and Alex simply sent links to the finished files that were added to the project. How does it work for the great design of the CD ? and why this title ?
The name of the album is one of the main songs on it. It accumulates in itself all the mood that accompanied the writing of texts and the cover visualizes it very well. You could even say that before we started recording the album, we came up with a cover, and this visual image strongly influenced the sound.
What are your projects ?
Evgeny has several projects of different genres from guitar industrial to oldchool ebm, Andrey has one in the traditional heavy genre of Doom Metal, Alexey is faithful to one main thing, it means Magik Brite =)
