What’s the story behind for SUBLIME MALAISE ?
«Sublime Malaise» is my debut album and it's born from a state of ill-being; it explores different variations and nuances of this state, with different tonalities and intensity levels. There really isn't much narrative there, but shimmering glimpses, memories, sensations. Nocturnal visions.
Your compositions and your texts ?..What are they talking about ?..How does inspiration come ?
Inspiration is always in the air for anyone to inhale it. It can come from your own experiences; from art and others' works. But to actually get something done, there needs to be a habitual process of creating (at least for me), so I try to create something every day, whether I make some new beat loops or play the synth a bit; or write; or work on photography. The more you do, the more you dare and it just starts to flow naturally.
In my texts, I usually take up a role, sometimes it's initiated by my own experience, sometimes not. And from there I let it go. Sometimes there is a defined character, for instance in my song «Niobe» the title character from Greek mythology is punished for her pride and hubris. I imagine new layers to the story and tell it from her viewpoint and it becomes a tale of misunderstanding and longing.
But sometimes it's very abstract, maybe not even human at all.
Are you day or night ?
I would instantly want to say night, but actually I'm both. I enjoy the rhythm and change.
Why the name BEDLESS BONES ?
When I decided to make music on my own, I knew instantly my own name wouldn't work, so I wanted a pseudonym that would also have a particular unease to it, and darkness, because that was what my music was going to be like. And at one moment I found myself repeating the phrase “bedless bones of headless gnomes” in my head. I don't know where it came from, I think I just randomly made it up, a silly rhyme, almost a tongue-twister. And so Bedless Bones stuck.
What are your personal musical tastes and your influences ?
I love strong creative forces, unique characters. Nick Cave, Blixa Bargeld, Dead Can Dance, Lingua Ignota, Anna von Hausswolff, Tricky. But also Blondie.

In studio, what was the atmosphere for your album ?...etc.…
I recorded everything in our one-room flat here in Tallinn, so the atmosphere was perfect.
How does it work for the great design of the CD ? and why this title ?
The artwork on «Sublime Malaise» is actually an astonishing 100x100cm oil painting by Latvian painter Alvīne Bautra. She's a friend of mine and has liked Bedless Bones' music from the very first single. And I have also always related to her paintings, that remind of multiexposure photography, they're realistic, but have an ethereal feel to them, like moments frozen in time. It took me some time to dare to ask her to do the cover and she actually said she had been meaning to ask me to model for her anyway. And she ended up doing three portraits of me. She's wonderful.
How was the shooting of the clip LIMBS ENTWINED ? and why this choice ?
The shooting was fun, we shot it near Tallinn on last summer days. The idea was to have these three abstract characters to entwine with the flow of the music.
Did you find a label ? If yes, how do you made the research ?
My label is Cold Transmission and they are fabulous people. I was looking for a dark music oriented label to put my album out and luckily ended up in the Cold Transmission family. I can't thank them enough, hugs to Suzy & Andy!
With Management and booking, how do you work ? And with whom ?
I'm currently still mostly own my own in that regard, but EU booking is done with the help of Cold Transmission.
What are your projects ?
Well, there's Bedless Bones... and I'm also one half of outdustrial band Forgotten Sunrise with my partner Anders.
What do you expect from the future ?
I don't expect anything, I accept everything.
What's your motto ?
I'm not that good with icky one-liners, can I recommend a book instead? Illness as Metaphor by Susan Sontag.
