What's the story for NEW HOPE ?
New Hope came naturally as a concept album that we wrote and recorded during last year. The songs deal with feelings like loss, longing and melancholy but at the same time you can still catch a glimpse of inner peace as every smile is a chance to love and every breath is a new hope.
Who composes ?...How does it work in the duo ?
Greg composes the music while I add lyrics and vocals.
Who writes the texts ?..What are they talking about ?..How does inspiration come ?
Check answer N2. The lyrics are very introspective and inspiration comes basically asan urgency to write down about personal feelings.
Why the name DARK-O-MATIC ?
There is a funny story behind the name. I was hanging out at a cafe with a friend of mine. I remember telling him that I was in search of a name for a new project and I wanted the name to have the word dark in it. We were brainstroming ideas; when out of the blue I mentioned the word automata (a word taken from a video game I was playing at the time; Nier: Automata). After that there was a pause and my friend shouted the name Dark-o-matic.
What are your personal musical tastes and your influences ?
Personally, I do tend to like what attracts my attention in terms of experimentation; avant-garde or simply genius notwithstanding the genre. My tastes span from electronic, experimental jazz, pop, post rock. In terms of vocalists I am definitely inspired by singers/artists like Scott Walker or David Sylvian.
My musical tastes tend to have a wide range but my influences are more particular. I started out as a guitarist and my guitar teacher was a big influence for that matter. I focused more on progressive rock at the time though I was listening from metal to MTV culture of the 90s which was what my elder sister was listening as well. And then I met my partner in life. She was very active in the dark/goth scene of our hometown as a fan and also as a djane for some time so I attended lots of parties and gigs and began to absorb all those sounds that were new to me at first but became too familiar as time passed.
In studio, what was the atmosphere for your album ?...etc.…
We recorded each part separately at our home studios and we had our dear friend and excellent sound engineer and producer George Nerantzis do the mix and master. No pressure, at our own pace so it was a nice relaxed experience.
How does it work for the design of the CD ? and why this title ?
As I mentioned before, the songs deal mainly with difficult times to which everyone as to deal at different stages . As a contrast, we wanted to start mentioning that light at the end of the tunnel "New hope", which is also the opening track.
Did you find a label ? If yes, how do you made the research ?
Yes we did. We are part of the skyQode family. Before our debut album, we released an EP titled ''Zugzwang". I asked a friend of mine who has a youtube channel dedicated to music (Dj Dark Modulator), to upload a track in order for us to promote it. A couple of months passed and I got a call from my friend saying that he got a message from a record company asking to hear more from Dark-o-matic. We did three demo songs and after that skyQode offered us a record deal.
With Management and booking, how do you work ? And with whom ?
At the moment, our current booking and PR agency is our record label skyQode.
What are your projects ?
I personally have a one man synth-pop project called “Elsehow” with which I released an EP last year. I also collaborate with another musician for an ambient-pop avant-garde project called FROM with whom I released a full length album in September called "A Memory of Tomorrow".
I was the producer behind NEONSKYLINES, an instrumetal synthwave project. I released a self titled EP some years ago. Also I have a side project under the name Mr.L3thΔL which is dedicated to remixing popular songs.
What do you expect from the future ?
We expect to bring "New Hope" live around Europe and we are already planning to work on new material

Our motto is ''Keep moving forward".
