Aftereffect are a melodic metal band. Maria is on lead vocals, Nico on bass, Costas plays drums and I (Alex) play the guitar and do some additional vocals and synths. We have released two EPs “Free Your Mind” and “Fade Away” and an album “Krama”.
What’s the story for KRAMA ?
It is our first album. It’s produced at Soundscape Studios and released by Manifest Records in August 2019.
Who composes ?...How does it work in the band ?
I am the main composer of the band so far but this is not a rule and I hope in the future the guys will make a song or two. However all members have some inputs here and there in the album. I just write the songs whenever I have inspiration which can come at any time. It depends, sometimes I might get a melody for the lead synth and sometimes for the vocal melody. Sometimes I just get a blur vision of the overall atmosphere of a song and try to work it out that way.
Who writes the texts ?..What are they talking about ?..How does inspiration come ?
I’ve written all texts of “Krama”. Most songs talk about suppressed desires and the attempt to experience them. Some songs speak about an emotional state that I had at the time I wrote the lyrics. I normally try to write the lyrics in a way so anyone can relate to them. The inspiration comes from real life experiences and encounters.
Why the name AFTEREFFECT ?
Maria came up with the name. Aftereffect means the effect you get after listening to ours or any music or even admiring any form of art. It’s the feeling you get after an experience and the way it changes you.
What are your personal musical tastes and your influences ?
We are listening to almost everything. All members in Aftereffect have a wide range of musical taste. I guess I’d say we all love metal and rock music the most but we also listen to industrial/aggrotech/ebm, trance, lots of eurodance especially the 90’s era, some pop too. I personally also like ethnic and traditional music from different places of the world, soundtracks, chillout music. One day I might start with Backstreet Boys and somehow will end up listening to Cradle Of Filth. It really depends on the mood but I guess we like calling ourselves metalheads mostly.
In studio, what was the atmosphere for the album KRAMA ?...etc.…
It was a lot of fun! We recorded at Soundscape Studios with Chris Charalambides on the consoles and he is a genuinely cool dude. Very experienced, helpful and funny. There were some comedic moments but also some difficult situations. One day there was a storm and the electricity was cut. Another day something would happen with the recorded tracks and they would disappear. But Chris and us never gave up and managed to deal with the situation with a good laugh and a solution.
How does it work for the design of the CD ? and why this title ?
The design of the CD is made by Manster Design. We gave the graphic artist a direction and he executed it perfectly. We wanted something with a sci-fi or a video game vibe. Only 3 colours are used for a greater and more memorable visual impact. As always the band members are present on all our covers so far.
“Krama” is a word of Greek origins and mostly means alloy or combination of different elements that when combined produce one new solid object. Just like our music which is a mixture of many styles that we like. Metal/pop/electronic music etc. You could also characterise the band as “Krama” as we are a group of very different individuals that when combined form Aftereffect.
With Management and booking, how do you work ? And with whom ?
We are not working with any booking management at the moment but are looking to work with someone who could properly promote us.
What are your projects ?
Me and Nico have an aggrotech band called Chamaeleon, Maria is singing in Jazz projects, Costas occasionally plays the drums in other metal bands. I’ve recently started composing for a potential death metal band project. Will see how it goes though. There is only so much time and Aftereffect and Chamaeleon are my top priorities as a musician.
What do you expect from the future ?
Hopefully play as many shows as we can and become popular enough to make some substantial money with Aftereffect so we can quit our day jobs and dedicate 100% of our time to music. You know, what every musician wishes haha!
What's your motto ?
-Why Mr Anderson? Why do you persist?
-Because I chose to.
Persist and keep it going and eventually something good will come out of it. And if not, you’ll have a good story to tell.
