What’s the story for LETTERS OF STRANGE TIMES ?
Everybody notices changes in the world. These changes are mainly accountable for most of the songs. Indeed some songs are about love, loss and so on. But most of the songs are about the visible and tactile changes.
Who composes ?...How does it work in the band ?
Music will always be composed by Hendrik and Carsten. Root is the idea which becomes melody and sounds.
Who writes the texts ?..What are they talking about ?..How does inspiration come ?
Writing was done by myself. Inspirations can be experiences or just walking with eyes and ears open crosstown.
Why the name ALL THE ASHES ?
Iam not sure about the name. All The Ashes was the idea of our 1st singer. He liked this fantasy stuff and communities and I think that´s where the name comes from.
What are your personal musical tastes and your influences ?
All The Ashes was founded by Carsten after listening to Steve Naghavi´s “And One” in 2002. Personal music tastes are different and range from Iron Maiden and Metallica over Kraftwerk, Underworld, Prodigy and other influenctial bands to Rock´N Roll. With all the experience made in life we all should be open to new and/or other styles instead of marking time. :-)
What's your best live memory ? And why ?
As Iam in since 2 years I remember a gig in Mönchengladbach which nearly was the best one. Small location, nice audience and three other bands. Stage was big enough for 2 steps forward and 2 steps back but it was such a powerful gig…
I liked the Benefiz-Festivals at Kulttempel Oberhausen. Really good organisation, cool location and always good atmosphere. Of course I remember some more really good gigs but this would really go beyond the scope ;-)
In studio, what was the atmosphere for the album LETTERS OF STRANGE TIMES ?...etc.…
It was a very relaxed atmosphere between all of us. The recording sessions started in the early 2018 and we finished in fall 2018. After mixing -done by Carsten- and creating the art work, finishing the corresponce with the press shop it took some more time and we presented the album in May 2019 together with our friends from Scintilla Anima in a double release party in Essen.
How does it work for the design of the CD ? and why this title ?
While writing the lyrics I thought about writing letters to a good friend who is not aware about all the strange experiences we made in the past. Based on this statement we decided to make the cover like and old envelope after a long journey to it´s destination place.
What are your projects ?
Presenting the new album live on stage Some festival gigs in 2020 would be nice :-) Working on new songs in the near future

Don´t stay were you are and look beyond your own nose. Music is so much more than only what you are listening to. Any ideas for coming to Belgium for a gig? ;-)
