Your texts ?What are they talking about? How does inspiration come ?
"Hot Blooded" is a fantasy of sorts. Musically speaking, a song can be shaped in many ways. Sometimes it is a fleeting thought or feeling that acts as a seed for the growth of a story. Other times it is an experience that I witness in the world around me. And, other times yet, it is a creation of my imagination. Much like a writer would create a poem, short story or novel, a songwriter creates a song. In this instance, "Hot Blooded' was created out of a desire to write a song that is influenced more by a sort of glam rock feel. As far as the lyrics, my songwriting tends to be sensual and fantasy like in nature. I follow my heart and intuition, and in this way, I feel that my musical gift speaks to me, and then I share it. And, that is how the creative process works for me.
Are you day or night ?
I can be inspired to write and create at anytime of the day or night. I write about things that I observe in the world around me; things I hear about or am curious about. Writing for me is an is a creative process. Like a poet, Songwriters choose lyrics carefully. It is a passionate endeavour. And, I construct my songs with a commitment to what my intuition tells me, that is somewhat inexplicable. It is a soulful experience. I feel very fortunate to be able to do, share, and receive praise and encouragement from my fans. I feel very honoured. Of course, being a musician I tend to be more active and energized at night. And, I guess this helps when I am on tour as the life of a touring musician is that you must be “on” when your shows are. And, by and large, unless I am doing festivals, most of my performances are in the evening.
What are your personal musical tastes and your influences ?
I love and appreciate music of all genres. I learn from everything that I listen too. Whether I like it or not, I appreciate it and learn from it. I am mostly influenced by Classic Rock and Alternative Rock. But, I listen to it all! For example, I am influenced by the incredible songwriting and vocal talent of women like Adele and Pink and Amy Winehouse. Also, guitar heroes like Slash (hence my tophat), Eddie Van Halen, Joe Satriani, Zack Wilde, and Steve Vai, Carlos Santana, to name a few. And, amazing bands like The Rolling Stones, U2, Aerosmith, Guns & Roses, The Beatles and many many more.
Generally, what's the reaction of the public during your concerts ?
I am very honoured with my fanbase. I feel inspired and grateful for my supporters every time I perform! I never lose that rush and the adrenaline that I get from my awesome fans! My music career has grown steadily since I began songwriting and performing at the age of 13. I am thrilled with my fans.
What's your best live memory? And, Why ?
I have played many venues, large and small. I always get a rush in front of both small intimate shows, and larger concert and/or festival size audiences. But, going back to the first show I did in my hometown of Ottawa, Canada, where I had many many friends and family out and close by the stage cheering me on, when I was at the start of my music career, would most likely be the most memorable for me. Because, it left a “forever” moment with me.
What are your future dates ?
