Present yourself to the readers
I’m Kirsten Ludwig from Victoria, BC, Canada. I started playing music professionally about 4 years ago, but have been writing music for much longer than that. I’ve toured Canada twice, as well as Austria, Germany, Switzerland, and The Netherlands with singer-songwriter Alexandria Maillot.
What’s the story for WE GET IT NOW ?
‘We Get It Now’ was written over a 2 year period in a time of difficulty and sadness. The songs on the record were written to get me through the hard times and they helped me see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Your texts ?..What are they talking about ?..How does inspiration come ?
Inspiration for me comes randomly, like a spark then a flame. I find I have to write ideas down as soon as the come to me, or else they disappear. The songs mostly are about loss and coping with that.
Are you day or night ?
Definitely night.
What are your personal musical tastes and your influences ?
I love Adrianne Lenker (Big Thief), Sharon Van Etten, Joni Mitchell, Haley Heynderickx, Alexandria Maillot, Mitski, and Hiss Golden Messenger.
In studio, what was the atmosphere for your new album ?…etc.…
I recorded and produced the record with Canadian legend Colin Stewart. He created such a safe environment for all of us to record in. A lot of lava lamps, sandwiches, and nice purple lights. Kathryn Calder, the owner of Oscar St. Records and also Colin’s wife, would always make delicious pasta.
How does it work for the great design of the CD ? and why this title ?
My dear friend from Vancouver, David Fenton, designed the album art, and Guy Ferguson took the single art photos. I think the album photo represents my feelings exactly. I am looking straight into the camera and it is a look of strength. My other albums I am looking away from the camera. The title comes from the song We Get It Now, and I think that song sums up the whole record.
With Management and booking, how do you work ? And with whom ?
Right now I work with Oscar St. Records, a Canadian label.
What are your projects ?
Drifting (2014), Honest Tracks (2016), and We Get It Now (2018)
What do you expect from the future ?
I look forward to touring this record a lot, especially in Europe, and hopefully starting on another recording project later next year.
