My name is Melanie Mulenga and I was born on the 19.03.1975 in Halle/Saale, Germany. I am of German and Zambian origin and I have spent most of my childhood and adolescent life in Zambia, East/Central Africa. My childhood was always filled with music and the sound of drums and laughter. My biggest dream and wish is to unite the world with all its differences through African and European sound waves. Music touches my core and fills my life with joy and relief.
Your texts and your music ?..What are they talking about ?..How does inspiration come ?
My texts and music as I already mentioned, are an attempt to heal the world through emotion and expression. They are basically based on pure life experiences from bliss to anxiety, laughter and dance and enlightenment and most of all my intent is to also captivate music at its soul and roots.
Inspiration is a special calling and is moody. It knows no time and place. I mostly get inspired by my inner world and what it is going through. Whenever inspiration knocks on my door, I have to answer to it.
What are your personal musical tastes and your influences ?
I love listening to Afro Beats, Soul, Jazz, Pop and Roots Reggae music and much more…. generally speaking, I love all music that comes from the heart and is soothing and uplifting.
My greatest influences are the immortal voices of Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, James Brown, Bob Marley, Lauryn Hill and Mother's Finest
What's your best live memory ? And why ?
Summer Jam 2013 and my Roots Center performance before thousands of people underneath the open sky. That feeling was electrifying and at the same time, it became so clear to me that music is my world and duty.
In studio, what was the ambiance for the album I AM ?...etc.…
When in studio recording, I was confronted with overwhelming emotions. I took my time and space needed before delivery of each and every song. My songs are like my babies, they need love and attention in order for them to grow in the best way possible.
As for the song choice of the my album tittle I Am, it motivates me to stay real to myself and not let anybody mislead my dreams. In other words: Be your own "guiding light".
How does it work for the design of the CD ? and why this title ?
The design of the album cover is quite simple but elegant and was taken by Foto Söhn here in Düsseldorf and the art work was then completed by John Palmer in Michigan, U.S.A.
I chose this title "I Am" cause it basically says, that I am my own person following my own fate and that no one and nothing can come in between. I am just like the "desert wind"( I've got the Right), it cannot be controlled or confined.
Did you find a label ? If yes, how do you made the research ?
Yes, I do have a record label called Megawave and is based in Michigan, U.S.A.
John Palmer, the founder and president of Megawave was introduced to me by my former promoter Bornfree
With Management and booking, how do you work ? And with whom ?
I am my own boss with an open eye in search of a great, truthful and passionate management and booking team.
I love working freely and linking up with as many artists and projects as possible like; Assembled Moods (Water for Africa), Swave (Concerts), Fitta Warri(Exotic Fever, Fi Mi Ras…), Carmen Brown (Rebel Woman) Roots Rebel Sound (I Am), Harry Gottschalk (Exotic Fever), Matti Rouse and Mithu Melanie Sanyal (Hypnotised for WDR 5) and FlavaFM in Zambia just to mention a few.
What are your projects ?
My music projects are on going! I have already started working on my second album lol . I AM also privileged to be able to support projects with my music like"Water For Africa", "Benefit Concert for Haiti" and building of new schools in Zambia "Kasuma Community School"! Children are the future ="Abana ni Furure"
More and never-ending music and projects surely to come.
What do you expect from the future ?
Expectations in life are never good, but I do wish that my music will touch and cure the hearts of many all over the globe. Once I reach that point, I can relax .

Think positive in life cause that's the only way to stay alive
