Present yourself to the readers
Heavy, Low, & Witchy. Frayle is a female fronted doom and witchrock band from Cleveland OH. They draw their inspiration from bands like Sleep, Portishead, Bjork, Kyuss, & Black Sabbath, Frayle makes music for the night sky.
Who composes ?...How does it work in the duo ?
Songs typically start with Sean writing and recording demos with guitar, bass, and drums. At this point the songs are about 60% arranged. Then Gwyn will bring in vocal melodies and lyrics. We record several versions of the songs in our studio and continue editing, arranging, and mixing until we’re both 100% happy. We usually hear each song in the car nearly 50 times until we are both satisfied.
Who writes the texts ?..What are they talking about ?..How does inspiration come ?
Gwyn writes the lyrics and draws inspiration from past and present personal experiences. We want our lyrics to show vulnerability and inspire empathy. Most of the time lyrics start with quickly jotted notes of a line or 2 which get tucked away. After the melody is written, Gwyn goes back to those notes and expands on them to flesh out the original idea.
Why the name FRAYLE ?
Frail by it’s definition is vulnerable. We believe that it is also beautiful. We take this approach to our music with Gwyn’s voice being so delicate over really heavy guitars, bass, etc. There is strength in vulnerability and so we changed the spelling to give more strength to the name. Spelling it the way we do made us think of “chain mail”, or some sort of armor.
What are your personal musical tastes and your influences ?
We have a wide range of tastes and influences. We both like heavy and aggressive bands like Beastwars, Deftones, System of A Down, Monolord, Clutch, & Mastodon… Alternative bands like (old) Smashing Pumpkins, The Cure, Chelsea Wolfe, Ministry as well as bands like Blonde Redhead, Sneaker Pimps and Massive Attack.
