Present yourself to the readers

Kindest regards to all Rock Your Underground and thanks to Hugues for the interview.
My name is Gustavo Olivera, I do vocals & guitar for the band Seiss, we’re an independent Project, a mexican rock band from Cuautitlan Izcalli town, specifically Atlanta district, we’re immersed in the underground scene of the city and its surroundings.

Who composes ?...How does it work in the band ?

I’m the main composer in the band, coming up with an idea and afterwards each member works within their own instrument. The band is also formed by Miguel Vega on bass, Luis Sánchez on drums & Charlie Cruz on guitar.

Who writes the texts ?..What are they talking about ?..How does inspiration come ?

Lyrics are mine, this LP has certain personal passages, critic social, euphoria, rage, depression, mysticism & spiritual healing.
Personally I feel more comfortable describing the dark side.
Most of the inspiration comes out of this reality I perceive from my trench and I like to “paint” raw & realistic portraits. Sometimes I just pick up my guitar, play a chord, and my brain overflows as if the lyrics were delivered by someone else from some unknown dimension.

Why the name SEISS ?

In the cabalistic “Tree of Life”, composed of 10 circles located in three columns, the central circle, the only one connected to the remaining 9, the number six and it’s called “beauty”. For the Kabbalah, the beauty, union, reunion, communication, is the center of life. And this “beauty” is not a unique object, it’s repeated among everything that exists.

What are your personal musical tastes and your influences ?

Personally I like a lot Frank Sinatra, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Lou Reed, Leonard Cohen. And inside the band there’s such influences in which we coincide comes from classic rock bands such as Les Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, etc…
But what enriches the sound is the personal influences of each one of us, it delivers a bigger color palette to the sound of the band, which generates many nuances.

What's your opinion about the current music scene in MEXICO ?

I believe that as the average industrial countries they are dedicated to potentiate the “commercial” music and it’s a big headache. Talking about general terms of the Mexican industry and specifically rock and roll, it is lost and poisoned. The most famous rock bands in my country saw their golden years during the 90’s and till today they are the tip of the spear. Fortunately, the real rock is always among the streets and we have found very interesting projects inside the underground scene.

In studio, what was the ambiance for the album SEISS ?...etc.…

It was a very interesting journey, cause’ we recorded the album in my house, it took over a year and we had to learn some basics stuff about sounding architecture, structures, materials, mic technics and other forced whims that you need to follow to get a great sound during the recording sessions. We’ve learned a lot during the process, hours and hours, testing and testing, again and again until we reached the expected sound. I think as well that we reached unique sound for the record, this is keeping us excited as we continue learning and desiring to keep producing our own material in the future.

How does it work for the design of the CD ?

I developed it in conjunction with an artist named Erick Cosmo and we achieved to design an encoded writing. We are very proud of the results.

Did you find a label ? If yes, how do you made the research ?

We have no record label, we are a completely independent band and every little aspect of the band we manage.

With Management and booking, how do you work ? And with whom ?

Our manager is an old friend named Ivan Acosta, he has worked many years inside the show business, good talker, persuasive and perceptive. So after spoken to him several times I convinced him to be our manager. He has sometimes a very different point of view form mine, and this make us fight several times, in the end this complements us and we have found the way to keep the relationship with benefits for both sides.

What are your projects ?

By now working hard in the band, we strive a lot to offer solid and stunning live shows. Play in every possible place and promoting our first record.

What do you expect from the future ?

I don’t live in the past and I don’t trust the future, we are a band focused in the present. We know that what we do for the benefit of rock music, rock music will return it to us. Everything that should be, will be.

What's your motto ?

Strength & Volition
