Hi we're 222 from Los Angeles CA
Who composes ?...How does it work in the duo ?
Dennis is the main writer but the ideas for the songs come from both of us. In fact the first song we wrote happened on a drunk night. We were hanging out in Dennis' studio and started recording what is now "One Night Stand". We got up the next day and listened to it and we were both surprisingly impressed and decided we should record some more songs which ultimately turned into our album "Libretto".
yeah I came into the studio in the morning like "oh yeah we recorded something last night". When I checked it out I was blown away not only by the song but that was the first time I heard Jade sing. We had been friends for years. I was like "why the hell are you not singing in a band?" So we started this one.
Who writes the texts ?..What are they talking about ?..How does inspiration come ?
I usually write the lyrics but Jade and I will come up with what to write about. The inspiration comes from all over. Whatever we think is interesting from horror magazines to kids cartoons. Nothing's off the table. Our songs are vignettes into where we come from and reflect just that. I feel like they are combo of 80's and 90's songs we grew up on and re-imagined in our art inspired heads.
Why the name 222 ?
222 is a number that has been a strange force in our lives. I was born on 2/22 in room 222 and when I met Jade she was staying in apartment #222 but it continues to be some sort of weird guide for us. I guess you could equate it to some sort of God.
What are your personal musical tastes and your influences ?
I grew up in the 90s so I was listening to stuff like Babes in Toyland, PJ Harvey, Nirvana, the Melvins, Bjork... That was a great time for music, when authentic artists were popular.
I think I just draw from everything I grew up on from Prince to Slayer in the 80's. I also used to save my money and just buy random records I thought looked cool at the record stores around me so the music is pretty eclectic but I do love strong hooks so I think that helps keep things relatable.
What's your best live memory ? And why ?
Honestly, I love playing my hometown. When we go back to Tucson all my family and old friends come out. It's the best to see everyone I grew up with out there supporting me, my mom dancing and killing it at the merch booth and my sister front row singing the lyrics to every song.
I have a lot of them but one that stands out is playing in our drummer Tosha's hometown in Indiana and seeing a crowd full of people go nuts to what was then a brand new original band. The mid-west can be watered down at times by cover bands and Dj's these days and that experience along with that tour really re-ignited my belief in people today.
