We are Tuxedo Gleam from Modesto Ca. Aunt Gleam- Synthesizers/Drum Machines/Samples Angel Marie- Vocals
Who composes ?...How does it work in the duo ?
We both contribute to the formation of the songs. Each song is approached a bit differently. Sometimes a lyric/word will instigate an idea, sometimes it's a rhythm or a noise. Then it's a matter of building from that foundation.
Who writes the texts ?..What are they talking about ?..How does inspiration come ?
We are both writers in a sense. And we discuss certain topics and certain frustrations together all of the time. The words are often ubiquitous and certainly ambiguous. Confusion. Despair. Hope. Dark. Light.
Why the name TUXEDO GLEAM ?
The name TUXEDO GLEAM comes from something I wrote years ago. "Butcher blade with a tuxedo gleam..."
What are your personal musical tastes and your influences ?
We enjoy many styles of music but seem to gravitate towards the dark and dreary. We have been fortunate to play shows with some very influential acts over the last few years.
What's your best live memory ? And why ?
Each show has been memorable! The first time we played with Black Marble, Zanna Nera and RedRedRed in Modesto, Ca was one of the best though. I set the show up at a place called the St Claire Theater that used to be on 7th st in Modesto. I had been promoting the show for over a month and on the day of the event the lady that owned the building called and told me the show was going to have to be cancelled. I was furious. Close to 200 people had already rsvp'd for the event. After a heated argument she decided to let us have the show but informed me that there would be no food or alcohol permitted. Despite the drama, the show was a great time. Huge turnout on a Tuesday night. Also it was Angel's first show with me.
What are your future dates ?
Wednesday May 17th at the Elbo Room in San Francisco opening for Black Marble and DRAA May 18th at The Shire in Modesto opening for Black Marble and DRAA May 19th at the Red Museum in Sacramento opening for Kontravoid
