We are ALANTIA a 5-headed metal band from Amsterdam The Netherlands. We’ve been playing metal together for almost 10 years now.
What’s the story behind NOVA ZEMBLA ?
Nova Zembla is a concept album about the epic voyage of the Dutch Willem Barentsz and his crew who sailed up north in order to find a shorter route to India (instead of sailing past South Africa). During their journey they got stuck in the polar ice and were doomed to spend the winter on an ice plane which is now known as Nova Zembla.
Who composes ?...How does it work in the band ?
Mark is the main composer for the band. He comes up with an idea and works it out in Cubase. From there the rest of the band gives some input and we finalize the song in the rehearsal room.
Who writes the texts ?..What are they talking about ?..How does inspiration come ?
Both Mark and Liselot wrote the lyrics for this album. A lot of inspiration came from the journals of one of the men who sailed under Willem Barentsz.
Why the name ALANTIA ?
Honestly we don’t remember.. I think we decided we wanted the name to start with an A and end with an A and took some letters and hustled these together.
What are your personal musical tastes and your influences ?
Our influences are very diverse. From the classics to some newer bands, from power metal to black metal and basically everything in between.
What's your best live memory ? And why ?
I think the best was our C.D. release for Remnants of a Dream in the Melody Line Amsterdam after which we also had a signing session. We were able to play with all our own gear (which was rare at that time), it was close by, and we had a very nice crowd. After the gig we did a signing session and we sold our CD’s.
