This is Gorebringer from UK. The band formed in 2017 and we are Blood Worm ( Vocals), Carrion ( Drums) and Stench (Guitars and Bass). As musicians we all have brutal death metal backgrounds, and in early 2017 we decided to make something different and came together to form a melodic death metal band in London. Our current sound can be described as melodic death metal with gory themes, and our first LP, A Craving for Flesh, has been released recently by the Gate of The Silver Key Records.
Who composes ?...How does it work in the band ?
Basically most songs in the album composed by Stench, but we all can play more than one instrument so if an idea comes to mind - a guitar riff for instance - we share it with other members ( Some of the guitar riffs have been written by our singer Blood Worm, and Carrion also had impact on guitar sound and some of the riffs) to choose the best approach to a song. Lyrics are written by Stench and Blood Worm together. First we create some kind of a guide, a simple recording with a single guitar and drums for the other instruments to follow along with, And than everyone listens to it and share their opinions, and than the other instruments- guitars 2 and 3, and the bass - are added to the music. Than we play the song live in the studio. In this stage we usually use help from other musicians as our songs need more than one guitar to be played live. The final step is to record the songs and make the final touches during the production.
Who writes the texts ?..What are they talking about ?..How does inspiration come ?
Lyrics are written by Stench and Blood Worm together. We all like horror movies -especially gory ones- horror novels, stories etc. so our lyrics are usually about gore and horror, such as a massacre or a serial killer or an evil entity that controls human mind. It really depends our mood at the time the song was written. 'A Craving for Flesh' is kind of a concept album about a serial killer who butchers his victims in a dark forest. There are 2-3 songs which have different themes but they are still loosely connected to the main theme of the album.
Why the name GOREBRINGER ?
The band's name is actually inspired by the legendary Deep Purple record 'Stormbringer'. As we love horror and gore, we thought 'Gorebringer' would make a great band name.
What are your personal musical tastes and your influences ?
Actually each member has a different taste in music, mostly metal and rock of course but everyone's favourite sub-genre is different. For instance Stench likes old school death metal and black metal the most, the Worm likes them too but also likes grindcore. We all like melodic death metal so it was a common thing for us. The band's current sound is inpired by early melodic death metal bands such as At the Gates, In Flames, Dark Tranquillity, Carcass etc. Other influences include classic death metal bands such as Death,Cryptopsy and Bolt Thrower. You can also find some 'black metal' in our sound. And of course we all love all-time rock legends such as Black Sabbath and Zeppelin.
In studio, what was the atmosphere for the album A CRAVING FOR FLESH ?...etc.…
We have recorded the album during night times, usually at late hours as we feel more comfortable recording at night. We can easily focus on what we are doing at night as the disturbance from the outside world is minimised. Everybody was relaxed and knew what they were doing in the studio as we had played and recorded other stuff together in the past. Apart from minor issues, such as getting too drunk or stoned in the studio from time to time, the recording process was smooth and easy.
How does it work for the great design of the CD ? and why this title ?
Well, we got very excited when we first saw the CD's design. We already knew the final design would be great as we were working with a vey talented artist for the cover, but to be honest, the final cover art was much better than we expected. The album generally tells the story of a sick-minded person who butchers and eats the flesh of his victims. He can't stop killing due to his cravings for human flesh. So we thought using a monster made of human remains instead of a man with a cleaver in hand was a better idea for the cover to reflect this character's personality. He is a flesh-eating monster after all.
What are your projects ?
Currenty we are in the process of recruiting a bass player and maybe a permanent 2nd guitarist to play with us in gigs as now we are using help from our musician friends who play in different bands when we play live. Hopefully we will be able to play throughout Europe without any issues in the near future. We keep making songs and getting ready for tours. These things keep us busy for now.
What do you expect from the future ?
Expectations could make you weaker as the time passes, and could also make you disappointed if you are not patient enough. So expecting something is risky and unnecessary in our opinion. As Gorebringer we are trying our best to share our music with fans. We will be doing our best in terms of musical quality in the future, so time will show. Our current goal is to reach more and more people with our music.
What's your motto ?
Always keep it up, be strong and creative.
