Present yourself to the readers

I'm David, founder and singer/rhythm guitar player in Edellom. Thank you for this interview.

What’s the story for SIRENS ?

There are actually two stories/themes/concepts, both deal with a poisonous connection between a man and a woman, drawing inspiration from folk and gothic literature.

Who composes ?...How does it work in the band ?

The process was different for almost every song in the album. Some were written mainly by me, later improved and developed with the rest of the band. Some were written from scratch together in the studio and some started as interesting riffs and melodies we gathered and brought to the studio and became full songs.

Who writes the texts ?..What are they talking about ?..How does inspiration come ?

Maria and I wrote 4 songs each, each one of us responsible for one story/theme/concept, and of course we asked the rest of the band for improvements and ideas. Even when I write on something that's not directly related to me, I always try to pour in some of my own emotions, thoughts and desires. For me, the inspiration for these lyrics came from multiple places: folklore stories, mythologies, tales and books I read.

Why the name EDELLOM ?

No particular reason. I thought about it many years ago and liked it.

What are your personal musical tastes and your influences ?

Obviously, mainly Metal, leaning towards the heavier and darker genres and styles such as Black Metal and Doom Metal, but not only, anything that I can mentally connect or bang my head to is great. I also like Pink Floyd, Anathema, Damien Rice, Colter Wall and many more.

What's your best live memory ? And why ?

I think I have a few: The first is the time we opened for Draconian, they pretty much inspired me to start a band as a kid and 8 years later we shared a stage, it was like a dream coming true. The second was a show in a small venue in Tel Aviv, a humble event with a passionate crowd of young metalheads. They started to mosh in slow-motion during the slower parts of our songs, it was hilarious!
And of course, lately we had our release show for the album, it was the hardest thing I've ever done. We arranged tons of decorations in addition the our own amps and equipment, we had a few ceremonies and acts during the show, and the crowd's response was amazing.

In studio, what was the atmosphere for your new album ?...etc.…

In the studio we mainly focused on giving our best. We argued and debated a lot and I think it got us the best results possible. Of course, not all of the work was done in studio, some of it was done at home, or near the beach at night to get inspired by the setting.

How does it work for the great design of the CD ? and why this title ?

The artwork was done by Khaos Diktator, an amazing artist from Europe. We presented him with our vision and he got us the best result. The title Sirens is an homage to the known myth of dangerous human-like creatures, seducing hopeless sailors into the ocean. This concept connects with our concepts thematically.

How was the shooting of the clip TO DARKNESS I FALL ? and why this choice ?

Oh, the shooting was tough! We drove 2.5 hours (some of us 3.5 hours!), near the northern border with Lebanon, and filmed for about 14 hours straight, moving tons of gear, equipment and props. The generator broke in the middle of the night and we had to drive 3 hours to get a new one… It was a mess, but every production is. It was also very fun and satisfying.

With Management and booking, how do you work ? And with whom ?

We don't have a manager, we work independently. Our booking agency is Total Metal.

What are your projects ?

Currently we focus on PR for the album. Soon we will sit down to write new songs.

What's your motto ?

Be excellent to each other.
