I am Cat(Catherine Nyland) from Heart of Pandora. Former vocalist from the band Mortal Love. Heart of Pandora also consist former members from Mortal Love;Damous(Pål Wasa Johansen) on drums and Lev(Hans Olav Kjeljebakken) on bass. Mortal Love released the triology ALL THE BEAUTY I HAVE LOST FOREVER WILL BE GONE. And now our new band, HEART OF PANDORA is out with the album "A girl in a world of wars" on several digital platforms. Our music is based on melodic songwriting in an atmospheric and melancholic soundscape.

What’s the story for A GIRL IN A WORLD OF WARS ?

Its about a girl. All she want is to live and love, but life and love also contains struggles.

Who composes ?...How does it work in the band ?

The composing of the songs is a collaboration. Pål Wasa Johansen or Hans Olav Kjeljebakken composes an ide and I work with the vocals and the lyrics together with them. On this album we were blessed to have Henning Ramseth (Ramzet) as our producer and co-composer. He got all the songs at the end and had free creativity. During the process we were all forming the final result together with Henning.

Who writes the texts ?..What are they talking about ?..How does inspiration come ?

We all contributes on the lyrics during the process. Inspiration comes from our personal lives. Love, friendship, family and loss in different contexts.

Why the name HEART OF PANDORA ?

The name is inspired by the story of Pandora and Pandoras box. The irresistible all-giving first woman, who held the source of good and bad in her hands. Pandora who opened the jar of evil, but also hope. “ Of all good things that mortals lack, hope in the soul alone stays back”.

What are your personal musical tastes and your influences ?

My musical taste is wide and I like different styles. All from jazz to heavy metal. But there are some musicians and bands that has always meant more to me and has been a big inspiration for several years. Some of them are The Gathering, Anneke Van Giersbergen, VUUR, Tori Amos, Eivør, Laleh, Van Morrison m.m

In studio, what was the atmosphere for your new album ?...etc.…

At the beginning of the composing we were working individually sending each other our ideas, using the internet. I developed a lot of the vocals in my studio at home, in my basement. Then, most of the songs were finished at Henning Ramseths studio, Space Valley. The atmosphere through the process were good because we know eachother way back and have great respect for each others opinions and musically thoughts.

How does it work for the design of the CD ? and why this title ?

This album will only be available on digital platforms. We have taken a lot of the pictures ourselves, or used familymembers like Hans Olav’s wife. We also used a local designer and photographer, Ingrid Rundberget. She’s from our hometown and did a great job with some of the pictures.

How was the shooting of the clip A GIRL IN A WORLD OF WARS ? and why this choice ?

We were waiting for that special sunlight we have during autumn and kinda suddenly decided to shoot it one day, because of the magical light that was present. We wanted to use a place with historical buildings. One can even imagine a girl living there in the 1800, maybe with her own little wars in life. It was just Pål W Johansen and me filming with his mobile. We wanted to make it simple, but beautiful.

With Management and booking, how do you work ? And with whom ?

Our manager Thomas takes care of the booking. We don’t have any shows scheduled at the moment,but it would be great to do a festival gig during the summer.

What are your projects ?

We are composing new songs for a second album. So that is our main project at the moment.

What do you expect from the future ?

I hope we can do some concerts here in Norway and hopefully in other countries in Europe too. Most of our listeners live abroad.

What's your motto ?

We are dreamers...we are the stars...we are the keepers of our hearts!
