What’s the story for ZORN ?
We wanted to make an album that is more than just one more album in NDH (Neue Deutsche Härte). We wanted to step over the horizon and define our music in a new way. Surprisingly it felt very natural and we soon realised we found a piece of our musical identity in it.
We named it Zorn because one of the songs is called Zorn but most importantly it is like an umbrella term for all of the songs.
Who composes ?...How does it work in the band ?
We collected our ideas together with our fantastic producer Felix Heldt and forged them in songs that have a huge and driving sound combined with great melodies and hooks.
Who writes the texts ?..What are they talking about ?..How does inspiration come ?
Most of the lyrics are written by our singer Heli. They reflect the world we live in, our deep emotions like depressions in the song « Schwarzer Schnee » or are inspired by the news. « Flammenhände » is about populist politicians who spread fear and hatred in the world. « Reich » is about a major corporation who drills for water in Africa and steals all of it from the poor population and sells it worldwide for a huge profit. Each song has its own theme.
Why the name MAERZFELD ?
The origin of the bands name also fits into this series of associations, as the “Märzfeld” was traditionally a piece of land outside the city walls of the Franconian Merovingians, where cattle were herded in times of peace, and the army was prepared for battle in times of war. It was an abandoned piece of land as a symbol of life: it is solely in the hands of the individual, what he or she makes of it. Therefore, to get up and get creating is not only the motto here but also an appeal.
What are your personal musical tastes and your influences ?
We love the music of our fellow german metal bands. There are so many others, it is impossible to name them all. They are all great !
But we also love good hard rocking bands, classic rock and blues rock. Part of that sneaked its way into the new songs.
In studio, what was the atmosphere for the new album ?...etc.…
The atmosphere in the studio was very energetic and it took a lot of hard work to make this album. We had a lot of discussions about various details. But in the end we were all very proud and satisfied with the result.
How does it work for the great design of the CD ? and why this title ?
The design is done by our good friend and design artist Holger Fichtner.
Our message with the cover is to show the pulsation in the brain during you start to get angry. The whole album (not only the Song « ZORN ») describes the worlds current situation for us in this time.
How was the shooting of the clip ZORN ? and why this choice ?
The video shooting of «Zorn» had to be done in a very short time. We teamed up with the crazy genius Jens Bodenstein and shot the video in just one day in an industrial complex in the middle of nowhere with a minimum of equipment. These limitations started a creative environment and made us think a little bit outside of the box. Which turned out to be fantastically crazy.
It was completely different to the shooting of our first single of the Zorn album «Schwarzer Schnee». We had weeks of planning it with 3he-studios.
Two completely different styles of making a music video. We love them both.

What are your projects ?
At the moment we are promoting our new CD and our ZORN-Tour.
What do you expect from the future ?
The future is looking bright for german metal, thanks to all our loyal fans and everybody who is supporting live music. We are looking forward to all the shows we will be playing.
And surely there will be a fifth album coming.:-)
What's your motto ?
I don't think we have one actually. :-)
