Hello friends, we are Funeral of Souls from Buenos Aires - Argentina and we play gothic doom metal.
We are Selva Anzorena in vocals, Luis Panteon in guitar and Gonzalo Lugosi in drums.
We joined in 2016 when we recorded an EP called Requiem with 5 songs. In 2019 we recorded a complete album with 7 new songs besides the 3 songs of the EP.
What’s the story for REQUIEM ?
Requiem's story is simple, that's what one of our songs is called, one of the ones that people like most for its melody and lyrics.
We decided that this would be the name of the album and it also combines very well with the name of the band.
Who composes ?...How does it work in the band ?
They are mostly composed by guitarrist Luis Panteon, who carries the songs to the rehearsals and listen to the opinion of Selva and Gonzalo.
Who writes the texts ?..What are they talking about ?..How does inspiration come ?
Lyrics are written entirely by the singer Selva Anzorena, they mostly talk about the supernatural world around us which many of us cannot see, inspired by personal experiences and popular indigenous/folk legends.
Why the name FUNERAL OF SOULS ?
The name was inspired by everything we like, darkness, death, sadness, depression, loneliness, things that go hand in hand with the musical style we do.
What are your personal musical tastes and your influences ?
Our tastes are varied, from The Cure to Tristania, from Nightwish to Tearful Moon, we like the doom metal, gothic, industrial, classic, power, black, funeral, etc.
In studio, what was the atmosphere for your album ?...etc.…
It came out of our souls, we are very similar to each other, we get along very well so composing, rehearsing and recording was very easy.
How does it work for the design of the CD ? and why this title ?
We wanted the design had some darkness but at the same time warmth, since we are not a 100% extreme band, we decided for the photo of an angel looking at the infinite, a touch of death, sadness and at the same time love.
It was taken by Petunia Fernandez, Argentine photographer and edited by Luis Panteon who designed the graphic of the album.
Did you find a label ? If yes, how do you made the research ?
We did not find a record company. In Argentina it is not easy to play this musical style, metal in general is not well seen although there are many bands, the record labels prefer pop, rock and popular folk music.
But we remain confident that one day we will have the opportunity in Argentina or anywhere in the world since we have several orders of records in France, Portugal, Scotland, Ukraine, Japan among others.
With Management and booking, how do you work ? And with whom ?
We don't have a manager. In our country it is easy to play in bars and pubs, you just have to look for them, there is no help from the record companies. Bars and pubs mostly support the bands providing their place for concerts.
What are your projects ?
Keep composing and recording, we already have 6 new songs and we are eager to go abroad to play, our songs are spoken in English so that could help us to leave our country and think big.
What do you expect from the future ?
To live from our music, can we? I don't know ... but we want to have the opportunity.
