Hi everyone, I'm Adrian the singer of Awake By Design, Glad to be here answering some questions for this awesome web-zine!
What’s the story for your new album ?
Each song generally has it's own vibe as this is not a concept album although it's definitely long enough it could have been one haha. There are a few recurring themes between songs. I have so many stories to tell on this album, there's a lot for people to relate to.
Who composes ?...How does it work in the band ?
I'm the main songwriter for this album but there was a couple of songs that other members helped write. I generally come up with the ideas and I take it to the band and those guys just make it even better! Couldn't live without them
Who writes the texts ?..What are they talking about ?..How does inspiration come ?
I handle lyrical duties but the other guys are also very capable at writing lyrics it just so happens that I tend to have a lot of it already written before the song even comes together. Inspiration is a funny one for me, it comes when I'm happy, angry, frustrated, excited etc etc... Song ideas can just pop into my head out of nowhere like a pot-hole in the road.
Why the name AWAKE BY DESIGN ?
Because Iron Maiden was taken.
What's your best live memory ? And why ?
When we did our first big show in-front of a whopping 2000 people supporting the talented Apocalyptica. I remember finishing the first song of our set and the sound of that crowd roaring made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Will never forget it.
In studio, what was the atmosphere for the album AWAKE BY DESIGN ?...etc.…
We had the pleasure of working with the amazing Karl Groom (Dragonforce, Threshold) so we were very excited. We are all great friends aswell so whenever we are all in a room together you can expect a bit of carnage
How does it work for the design of the CD ? and why this title ?
We felt this new album had to be Self-titled as it had a lot to say. We think it's the best thing we've ever done and the start of something new and special.
How was the shooting of the great song and clip CALLING YOU HOME ? and why this choice ?
The choice was an easy one, we had already filmed two music videos for two songs that were heavier, so picking a ballad was a no brainer.
Shooting the music video was a great experience for this one as it was a very chilled environment surrounded by a talented team of video production guys called Jay H filmmaker, Check them out!
What are your projects (for the band) ?
We will hopefully be doing some touring when things are back to normal but for now we will be promoting this new album and maybe recording some acoustic stuff later on in the year.
