Dark the Suns is a melodic metal band from Finland. We have released three albums (In Darkness Comes Beauty, All Ends in Silence, Sleepwalking in a Nightmare). All albums are released by Finnish record label Firebox Records. Our new single Suru Raivosi Sydämeni Pimeydessä was released in May 2020 by Finnish Inverse Records.
Who composes ?...How does it work in the duo ?
Inka and I write music and lyrics together. It has worked very well since the year 2006 when we have met each others. We have written almost all Dark the Suns songs together, so it was really simple to continue band after the years of silence as a duo.
We usually start to play new ideas by piano and guitar, so it works very well in the duo. We have learned to find a way to develop the ideas and also give them some time, not judging them right away, so it has been really nice to write the music together.
Who writes the texts ?..What are they talking about ?..How does inspiration come ?
Inka and I write lyrics together. We exchange the ideas and think about how lyrics would sound good with the music. I think that it’s important to find good rhythm for the vocals in the lyrics. For the new single I have written almost all lyrics because Suru Raivosi Sydämeni Pimeydessä is a really personal song for me. I think that the song includes the rage of emotions.
I would say that instead of creating stories we almost always write about emotions and moments. For me the nature is the biggest inspiration. I also read a lot; good books and movies give food for thought.
Why the name DARK THE SUNS ?
The idea of band name was mine. I wanted it to be unique and I thought that this name looked good in the logo! The name also includes some melancholic atmosphere. It’s atmospheric time when all light fades away and shadows and darkness grow everywhere.
What's your best live memory ? And why ?
It has been a long time since our last show. We have played lots of shows during the years 2006-2010. We have lots of good memories, good venues, amazing people and audience. Those were really great times! Maybe the best memories of playing live are from Finland; Helsinki, Jyväskylä, Oulu and Seinäjoki. At this moment we are not going to do new shows because we don’t have plans to get new players for the band. We don’t have time to search for a drummer and keyboard player and train together as much as it would take time.
