Present yourself to the readers

We are a four piece band based in Florence, Italy. We have been knowing each other since a long time: I have been playing with Matteo, the drummer and Claudio the bass player in other projects in the past. Matteo called me way back in 2015 because he was working with Marco, the guitar player on a bunch of songs. Once I heard them I offered to join the band, thinking is was going to be more a “project”. We released our debut album in 2017 and since then we kept on writing new material. That's how Damn Freaks became more of a band sharing the goal to write hard rock songs.

What’s the story for LOVE IN STEREO ?

We wanted to celebrate '80s hard rock. We have very different taste when it comes to music, but we all loved bands like White lion, Dokken, Great White and the early Bon Jovi. The '80s were a very special moment as for the first time we were not the “outsiders” the guys who had strange taste in music. The music we have been loving had airplay here in Italy like never before and people started following the artists we have been fan since a long time. “Love In Stereo” is a celebration of those incredible years that ment a lot to us.

Who composes?...How does it work in the band?

It's a team work. We compose the old way. 4 guys in a rehearsal room, sharing ideas. That 's how all the songs you hear on the album have been written.

Who writes the texts?..What are they talking about?..How does inspiration come?

I wrote all the lyrics. There is no rule for me; the musickind of inspire me the theme and the words. It has always been like that. I don't write lyrics before the music.

Why the name DAMN FREAKS?

It took a while to choose the name for the band. That's how we consider ourselves: we are all freaks in our own different way, but and we are very determinate, which is a good or bad attitude depending how you see it.

What's your best live memory ? And why ?

I remember the first time we palyed at festival in our home town. It was our second gig, and although we are kind of experienced, we were all so nervous before going on stage. It reminded me of the first ever concert I did when I was 16 years old a long, long time ago.

In studio, what was the atmosphere for your new album ?...etc.…

We chose a very nice stuido in Florence: it's called Ka-pow and it's run by some good old friend of us, another “damn freak” and his son. They have a huge recording room, full of old keyboards and hammond organs. And it has a window too, which is not that common, so I was able to record my parts during the day, with the sunlight coming in.

How does it work for the design of the CD ? and why this title ?

We are very lucky that Claudio, our bass player is a very good graphic designer. He came up with the whole concept of the album cover. Again, it's very '80s, with that pink dress and the leather seats of the car. Listening to music in the car it just takes back in time: the cassettes with our self made compilations that we would listen at high volume while enjoying our Friday night with friends...

How was the shooting of the clip LIFE’S TOO SHORT TO FEEL OLD ? and why this choice ?

well the title of the song kind of inspired thw whole video: We are party guys and there is nothing as good as listening to hard rock while having a good time with your best friends! Also we wanted to give the audience something lightweight and funny specially during these tough times. Music has the power to lift you up and make you feel better, but we tend to forget this.

With Management and booking, how do you work? And with whom?

we have done NO gigs during this ahole year because of the pandemic. We hope this will end at last and we will start looking for a good booking agency as we want to play live.

What are your projects?

promote the album. We are in the process of releasing the Cd finally. It wil come out as limited edition with some extra «treats» for our fans!

What's your motto?

We have wrote a song about: Life's too short to feel old!
