Hello I’m Alex lead singer from the UK melodic Rock Band Devilfire.
What’s the story for BLACK SOUL VENDETTA ?
Well, Black Soul Vendetta for short is the second album from the band, released 3 years after the debut album Dark Manoeuvres (2017). Black soul Vendetta isn’t really one thing in particular but if it was it would be a soul gone black twisted by revenge. This is usually the kind of thing Devilfire writes about. Usually with Devilfire its very melodic with a dark undertone.
Who composes ?...How does it work in the band ?(for this album)
Well It has been different on some releases but mainly I tend to write a lot of material and then I get the lads to perform certain parts. I tend to take charge but I’ve found myself as the years have gone on getting better at accepting the writing influences around me.
Who writes the texts ?..What are they talking about ?..How does inspiration come ?(for this album)
I write the lyrics. Most of it is about Love, loss, revenge, sex, drink, drugs, rock and roll all the cool stuff, well the stuff I still think is cool anyway. Most often than not they are cautionary tales. The inspiration is usually from my own experience or life. I tend to think write what you know. It usually feels less corny. I like to wear my heart on my sleeve it feels more genuine.
Why the name DEVILFIRE ?
In the beginning we were actually called Devilstar, Sadly though the name was taken so I had to come up with something fast Star = Sun =Fire ah Devilfire then. We were just about to tour Europe so I really didnthave time to think much about it.
What are your personal musical tastes and your influences ?
I have a lot to be honest. I Guess my big one was Lenny Kravitz, closely followed by Guns N’ Roses and then Motley Crue. But to be honest over the years there have been loads. Everything from Metallica to Rachmaninov. I started in Indie music with Oasis and the brit Pop explosion and went backwards from there. The guys in the band have influences like Iron Maiden and Thin Lizzy which is why there are so many twin lead breaks. Guess it’s just become our thing. I think we all love the simplicity of harmony.
In studio, what was the atmosphere for your new album ?…etc.…
This album wasn’t conventionally recorded you could say, We didn’t all get together in a room like the albums of old sadly. As much as I personally would love to do it that way this was done with file swapping from remote locations. There were aspects that were done in the studio but there were only ever 2 members together in a single room at any one time. Still it just shows what a record you can make if you are focused on an end idea and product.
