What’s the story for DESDEMONA ?
The “Desdemona” project started in 2017, when we decided to explore further the gothic metal attitude adding a significant amount of symphonic sound. This pushed us to search for a singer who could sing both pop and classical styles, and thus, after a long research, Hela joined the band in June 2019.
What's your best live memory ? And why ?
I actually would like to tell about a night when our gear fell down on the drums and broke – I’m alive by miracle! - When we play live we normally use background instrumental sequences, so unfortunately we weren’t able to use them after this accident, and then we played without the sequences. We managed to make a successful gig anyway!
In studio, what was the atmosphere for your new album ?...etc.…
well, besides the professional work we have been able to do thanks to Francesco Tedesco’s gear and competence, I can’t help but remembering my beloved “pizzettas”, a snack bought for me by Ros to get through the whole day in the recording studio! Other than this, we spent whole days in the studio, starting at 10 in the morning arriving to 6 in the afternoon, sometimes even to 8 pm, in complete concentration. I can say that the result was worth all our efforts!
How does it work for the great design of the CD ? and why this title ?
The cover was created by the Polish artist Adam Andrearczyk. We found it on the web and fell in love at first sight with it because we thought it best represented all the themes enclosed in this album: hope, fear, love but above all separation and end of the things, important themes that bring somehow to an unavoidable change and a rebirth.
The title is actually a female name of Greek origins: it means “born under an unlucky star”. The curious thing is that some episodes of bad luck actually occurred during the album process, the last of which is the lockdown for the Covid-19 emergency – which came to happen just when we finished to plan everything to shoot the videoclip for the title track, “Desdemona”.
What are your projects ?
We’re currently working on an album to celebrate twenty-five years of the band next year. It will be a sort of “best of” including the best tracks of each album published so far and played in an acoustic version. We’re also working on new material for the next album and looking forward to shooting some videoclips – as soon as this emergency will allow it.
What's your motto ?
«Mah, pe’ na cas’e cambagn» (lit. «Well, [it may go well] for a country house], which in our slang is synonimous with accepting things as they are, but with a hint of irony.
