Darzamat was founded in 1995 and has released 6 studio albums. The band started with symphonic black metal turning a bit to gothic style. Personally, I don’t think that we can be easily classified, though I know that some people need to label music and bands. Now, that we’ve stopped using keyboards – it is even harder to give it such and such name. Music is freedom, so the best way to get to know the band is to listen to it and after that include or exclude it from your playlist.

What’s the story for A PHILOSOPHER AT THE END OF THE UNIVERSE ?

The concept of "The Philosopher at the Ends of the Universe" is a continuation of a story of the character from the previous album. This person having experienced his falls, pain and fear, manage to see himself as powerful creature who breaks all his barriers, crosses the so far unmeasured regions, and above all follows his inner voice. He doesn’t want to imitate anyone or follow any patterns anymore. He becomes a philosopher, someone who searches beyond the visible, beyond what he was taught to know and convinced to believe in.

Who composes ?...How does it work in the band ?(for this album)

Composing in Darzamat is a very complex process involving the entire band. For the new album, the lyrics come from me and the music from our guitarist Chris. However, it would be too much of a simplification, because we come from ideas and not ready-made compositions. It is just a starting point and a huge brainstorming comes after - in both: music sphere and also in the lyrics that Nera is able to change this or that at the latest stages. We have been composing with Chris and Nera for nearly 20 years, and Markus has been with us for over 10 years. Still, the process of composing and creating is undergoing a certain evolution and we just let things happen and it works for us.

Who writes the texts ?..What are they talking about ?..How does inspiration come ?(for this album)

I wrote the texts together with my friend Jesion Kowal, a poet, prose writer and philologist. To be precise, it started with a creative translation. It was the first time that I opened myself so much to someone's comments and corrections. They were so significant that I decided at some point that we should be called co-authors. We will undoubtedly continue this cooperation. We are both also co-authors of the short story "A Philosopher at the End of the Universe", a fragment of which was included in the CD insert. This album is about fighting for yourself, searching, traveling, and not being afraid to stand firm for what you believe in yourself. Our hero is not limited to the material world, on the contrary, it is rather about discovering the spiritual world, following the path of higher dimensions.

Why the name DARZAMAT ?

The name comes from Latvian mythology and it denotes garden goddess ("darzs" - "garden", "mate" - "mother"), which I really like as it seems to me very "organic", close to the nature and paganism.

What's your best live memory ? And why ?

We don't have one best memory, but many of them. Summer festivals, Metalmania in Spodek, in a very characteristic UFO-like venue, in our hometown, in Katowice, in the presence of 10,000 people, where we recorded a DVD, a tour around Russia, our trip to Mexico, joint mini-tour with Moonspell, or with Sabaton and Trail of Tears. There would be many of these memories. Also our performance at the club in Kiev with Rotting Christ and Fintroll. It was a wonderfully received gig and everything was very spontaneous. The bands were already in Ukraine, but unfortunately the organizer cancelled the festival, where we were supposed to play with many other bands.
This concert in the club happened spontaneously, the bands played for free for people who came to Ukraine from Kazakhstan, Russia or Georgia. It’s a great memory: people were even standing in the windows and there were several hundred people outside who were listening to the concert straight from the street.

In studio, what was the atmosphere for your new album ?...etc.…

Everything was fine and it was probably the most comfortable recording session in our history. Everything happened at our own pace without any haste. We had no deadlines and people pushing us. The band is the producer of the album themselves, so we were the ones to decide when to start and finish the recordings. I fondly remember the times when the studio would be your second home and the band your family.
It had an undoubted charm, but today - when we all have so many obligations, you have to work in a different system and this also has its advantages.

How does it work for the great design of the CD ? and why this title ?

I wouldn’t like to give to the listeners ready-made answers. But let's just say this: the figure from the cover is on the way, searching and discovering her potential. The picture is also connected with the cover of our previous album. Why such a title? Because it perfectly binds the ideas present on his album. The work on the cover was a process - first, together with our photographer, Jeremi Astaszow, we created a photo on the basis of which the final effect was created by our graphic artist Michał from Black Team Media.

How was the shooting of the clip THE GREAT BLAZE ? and why this choice ?

All the images we create for our music are always quite a challenge. For some time now, we have started making and producing our videos ourselves, thanks to our bassist Markus, who does this business. He edited "The Great Blaze" and "A Philosopher ..." and is currently working on a music video for the closing song "Kaleidoscope of Retreat". We also have a video clip ready for the song "The Sleeping Prophet" by our friend Stanislaw Nolywajko from Rumburak Produkcja Filmowa. So, “The Great Blaze” is only one of many and in the coming months we will therefore continue to promote our newest album by publishing new music videos for our music.

With Management and booking, how do you work ? And with whom ?

Darzamat has just come back to being active after ten years' hiatus, and unfortunately all concert events are suspended due to the Covid 19 pandemic. So we're not really bothering about concerts at the moment. It looks like this situation may continue for a long time, because the virus has been with us for almost a year and so far noone knows what’s going to happen. Therefore, all talks regarding cooperation with management and booking agency have been suspended due to the situation in the world. In my opinion, even talking about tours and festivals does not make sense at the moment. Darzamat focuses on writing more songs at this moment, it always makes sense.

What are your projects ?(for the band)

We definitely have a lot of ideas and plans in our heads because after such a long break the band is hungry for action. Next year, Darzamat will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of our debut, "In the Flames of Black Art" and for this reason this album should be re-released. We have already started writing new songs, so there are plans to continue "A Philosopher at the End of the Universe" and thus end the concept that started on "Solfernus" Path. There is also a smaller release on my mind, something in the form of an EP. There is nothing to announce or promise at the moment. We live in strange times, so it's better to focus on work than on announcements.
