Hello friends ! We will discover the universe of ZERODAY but especially their new album.
Present yourself to the readers
Hello guys! First of all, we would like to thank Hugues Bernard for this interview. We are a pop-punk/metal band from Hungary, called ZeroDay. I would describe our music/attitude as a bipolar, energetic young boy. Sometimes up, sometimes down, but we always keep going. The best thing about our band that it’s a big family and we always keep each others chin up, no matter how hard our current sit is. This keeps us alive since 2014, despite only 2 of the 5 members are the original: Isti (guitar, vocal) and me (Norbi – drums). Donát is the vocalist since 2016, Peti is the guitarist since 2017 and our freshman is Krisztián on the bass since 2019
What’s the story for BAGGIRA ?
The album is more or less a concept album with some spin-offs, but I try to introduce every song shortly: Ain’t heroes: This is just a simple album opener, no backstory. Baggira: We all have our inner demons (Oni mask figure in the music video) and we always try to escape from them and cannot realize that the demons are only ourselves. In this case, hope the music video makes more sense now for the readers. Ishimura: Just a fast mosh-pit song, no backstory. Cthulhu rising: It’s a kinda spin-off.. beside our inner demons we have to fight with our real beings, because we slowly destroy ourselves. In the end of the music video there is the Oni mask figure (inner demon) who also got scared of what is happening in our world. Dying: Introducing the pain and the aimless fight with the demons. The music video shows some easter eggs from the Hazardous Waster clip (guts, 50s music etc.) Hazardous waste: A man tries to beat these demons but ending up being a (serial killer) demon too, who massacre his friends. This shows there is no escape (at least not this way). Monster star: no connection to the story, but the music video is about our ‘family’ as I mentioned before. There are clips from 2014 to 2019 showing fun stuff, concert moments etc about the band. Alright, hide: another fight with the demons, but this is also a very inexpicable, aimless one. And here we show our global/personal problems that affects our feelings and the way we look at ourselves: Marshall & Lily: a break-up Common Language: Hate: people killing, hate each other Help for the hopeless: the non-sense massacre and torture of the other animals caused by humans Compassion: the ending of the album, when no other option remains to escape the f’cked up world and the demons than jumping down from a building. Eventually it turns out that this was also a bad choice because the Oni mask figure stayed alive. In conclusion: everybody has to deal with their own demons and be able to live with them. It’s really hard especially for our “Doomer generation” but there is no other way to survive.
Who composes ?...How does it work in the band ?
Mainly the two original members of the band, Isti and I. We come up with ideas, collect/record them and shows it to the others. If they have some other ideas we try to insert them to the final song and come up with a production that everybody in the band likes. When we are writing songs we always experimenting new ideas, sounds and structures to avoid being boring.
Who writes the texts ?..What are they talking about ?..How does inspiration come ?
Whoever has an idea or a current life situation that inspires him. It’s easier to write from real feelings, even if the rhyme or pulse of the lyrics is not perfect. Writing down sentences or just words that comes to mind in the perfect spiritual state is way better than forcing ‘Now I’m going to write about my problems’. Otherwise, it doesn’t mean that we don’t have stupid or no-sense lyrics in some songs, haha.
Why the name ZERODAY ?
brainstorming” in 2014. Anyway we are about to change it, but still don’t have a good one..
What are your personal musical tastes and your influences ?
Everybody in the band has a really wide taste in music from Russian hard techno through metalcore to chill romantic songs. This is why it’s really hard to choose particular bands. We really like the ones who are not afraid to make new things like BMTH, Ghostemane but we bang to the good old ones like RATM, SOAD etc..
What's your best live memory ? And why ?
It’s a tough question because we have like 3-5 common parties a year only to have fun (I mean no concerts). Beside that we have some gigs too.. maybe our best musical memory was at Kaposvár, we were over the moon after the concert, because the sound was phenomenal and we had backstage food/drink, a funny road there and back.. that was just a great night. There was an other concert - we were touring with 2 “friend-band” in Szombathely – when at the last song almost everybody got on the stage and got crazy. That was pure enjoyment. But also enjoyed the Skateboard festivals… and the other club concerts.. hard to pick only one.
In studio, what was the atmosphere for your new album ?...etc.…
Half of the album was recorded at home together and the other half was recorded in our friends little studio. We were writing songs there, brainstorming between to splash in the pool and some beer. This brings up some good fun memories and nights after the sessions.
