Mikael from a Finnish symphonic metal band Star Insight. I´m founder & songwriter.
What´s the story for ACROSS THE GALAXY ?
Our debut album “Messera” came out 2014. Few years after that we had plenty of new songs ready for the next album and we planned to go to the studio, but our drummer past away. It was a huge loss to us. We postponed the recordings.
The title song “Across the galaxy” was originally composed to another band by me.
That project band never started so i decided that we take that song to the album.
It´s pretty different compared to other songs. Maybe it´s involved for that very reason.
Who composes?...How does it work in the band ?
I write songs and play all instruments to the demos. After that we choose the best ones.
After that others learn the songs and make their own arrangements. It seems to be working well. Pekka has taken care of the sound-design.
Who writes the texts ? What are they talking about ?...How does inspiration comes ?
Our singers Pekka and Anna write most of the lyrics. My wife have written one of them too. (ex. “Death to the stars”)
A quote from Pekka: -"Inspiration comes from the outside. Go outside and gaze upon the wasteland we have created. Imagine when we depart."
Why the name Star Insight ?
When i thought of the band name i wanted it to be two-parted like “In Flames”. Those times i was influenced by “The Kovenant” which is kind of “Space metal”. So i wanted band name to refer to stars and space. “Star Inside” was my first idea. My friend suggested “insight” instead of inside because it looked and sounded better.
What´s your best live memory? And why ?
Gig at “Kontioralli” 2016. We arrived at the scene in a police convoy.
It is an event with a lot of motorcyclists. There was about few thousand people.
The audience was nice and really enjoyed the music. First everyone stood still.
Then they danced and jumped to the beat of the music.
In the studio, what was the atmosphere for your new album ?...etc…
This time we skipped the studio. We recorded all the instruments in our homes separately.
It was really a different experience.
How does it work for the great design of the CD ? And why this title ?
Title is chosen because it reflects well the contents of the album. “Across the Galaxy” might require a few listens to get "in" to it.
How was the shooting of the clip IT´S ALL LIES? And why this choice ?
video shows a picture of an old match factory in Tampere, Kyrkösjärvi in Seinäjoki and an abandoned building in Seinäjoki that no longer exists. The video is made by Jussi Kurkimäki. He has made all our videos and we trust him completely. ”It´s All Lies” is among the first songs composed for the upcoming “Across The Galaxy” album. Therefore, it was an easy choice.

What are your projects ?
At the moment i write new songs for Star Insight. Pekka has the band “Arina” and Aapo plays also in the band called “Memoremains”. Toni has "Riveryman" band/project.
What do you expect from the future ?
The end of the Corona. Gigs. More music. Mass extinction.
What´s your motto ?
“Make metal great again”
