Hi guys, thanks for reaching out! I’m Nina, a German artist that resides in Cleveland OH. I studied music in Bochum, Germany and moved to the states in 2010. I have since worked on music and own a production company called Vanek Inc with my husband. Wow, this sounds extremley boring.

Your compositions and your texts ?..What are they talking about ?..How does inspiration come ?

I was hoping nobody would ever ask! Initially the album was called “31 secrets”. I was going to write about friends' stories and what they were going through. While writing, the stories grew closer to me, because a lot of the topics I wrote about were things everyone could identify with. (Such as love, connection, sex and relationships) I eventually threw away the idea to write about my friends, and based the songs on my own stories. (Note: I am not Sarah in “Wonderlust”!)
While producing the music I wasn’t sure if “31 secrets” still fit, so I went with a selt-titled album instead. After all it’s reflecting me as an artist. Where do I get inspired? When I’m in songwriting mode I find inspiration pretty much anywhere.

Are you day or night ?

I am German, we don’t sleep. No, but for real. I never liked going to bed until I had children. Now my king sized american bed is my favorite place in the whole wide world and napping, if I ever get to it, rocks!

What’s your top 5 albums of all time ?

Hhhmmm...I guess
Misfits : Famous Monsters
Janis : Pearl
WASP : The Crimson Idol
Motorhead : Orgasmatron
Iron Maiden : Killers
It’s hard to say.I probably forgot a ton. Generally I like to listen to feel-good rock`n roll, but I do like experimental stuff as well. And I always like to support the local scene and listen to The Manimals, Midnight, Breaker, Ground Zero and so much more!

In the shower or in the bath, do you sing ? If yes, your songs or those of others ?

Well, since I work as a vocal coach I am always mindful of my voice, so a lot of times I sing terrible musical songs from AIDA or Disney to warm my voice up.

In studio, what was the atmosphere for your album ?...etc.…

Our studio (Mercinary Studios) is awesome, and the mood is always rockin’! We have the luxury to be able to record live as a band, as we have multiple rooms within the studio. Our recording engineer Noah is amazing and I hired two friends of mine to play bass and drums. My husband played guitar. We really wanted to capture that old school 70’s feeling and fed of each others energy. It only took four hours to record 10 songs. I sang along live as well. Afterwards we added more guitars, keys, backing vox and percussion. We then mixed it a little bit more modern, so that it wouldn’t hurt the millenials ears.

With Management and booking, how do you work ? And with whom ?

I am a business owner, so everything goes through me, baby!
No, but for real. I manage my husband's band, VANIK, and the Nina Vee album was more of a personal goal for me. I needed to know what kind of music comes out of me naturally, as studying musical theater had ruined that part! I can proudly say that this album is who I am. My metal friends probably think I’m a softie now, and my mom friends probably think I’m a rocker.

Would you like to work with an artist ? If so who ?

I’m dreaming of doing duets with Asaaf Avidan and Michale Graves.

What do you expect from the future ?

I live in the moment and will never stop being creative. I work at a music school where I teach early childhood education. I write children's songs all the time. Eventually I’ll actually record them and do who knows what with it! I also just started a youtube channel (Fable Break) where I read stories. And I was just hired to narrate a book, so yes, I’m never bored.
