What’s the story for MYSTO ?
MYSTO is a conceptual album describing the mystical side of Kyiv - the capital of Ukraine. Each song narrates a specific story or legend depicting different perspectives of supernatural history of our city starting from medievalism up to modernity. Few people are really aware of all Kyiv mystery faces, even among the indigenous citizens. So with this release we are trying to attract attention to our capital as eastern European mystical midpoint.
Why the name I MISS MY DEATH ?
I Miss My Death is kinda substance of the one, who has cognized eternity, who’s missed their death and managed to get the entire sense of the whole being, but now lost in time and missing the Death’s shot in the blue.
What are your personal musical tastes and your influences?
All of us listen to different music from old school death metal to more symphonic and modern sounding bands, which helps us make our own music style combine different flavors in order to deliver as interesting works to our beloved listeners as we can.
What's your best live memory? And why?
Well, there were a lot of nice events we participated in and we can talk a lot about how cool this and that was.
But one fine day we’ve traveled to a little town in the middle of nowhere to play a show on the small open-air festival. After the pretty long way there we were a bit tired, the venue looked a bit crappy and the place didn’t look organized for a live concert at all. How happy did we have to be when before our set the weather had decided that the day was too good and it started raining. When we played, the stage shed could not cope with the rain and from time to time one of us got a nice refreshing shower :), especially the drummer. Electricity also worked with interruptions, so a couple of parts were played unplugged:). Long story short, you wouldn’t wish your enemy to play in such conditions.
However among all this mess there were such nice people in front of us! They were singing with us and supporting us so much, in spite of the rain they weren’t even covered for. In the end no one cared about the weather, we finished our set, made a lot of photos, had a lot of talks, and went home pissed, wet, but so happy :).
The point is that you can stick into any situation while being on tour, but anyway you have to do your best for the fans, so they have fun, as well as you will.
In studio, what was the atmosphere for your new album ?...etc.…
Recording music is always a good experience and fun. We’ve spent awesome time in the studio implementing all the prepared parts and arrangements as well as the ideas that come in the middle of the process such as collective choir recording, panoramic acoustic guitars arrangements and so on… Sound engineering was an outstanding part of the process. We’ve been working with different people, spent a lot of time and energy getting the result we imagined. But it’s hard to overrate the pleasure we’ve got making our album turn up.
How does it work for the design of the CD ? and why this title ?
Album design was implemented by a talented painter Anna Levytska. She’s got her own specific visualizing manner, that works with our vision pretty well. Anna’s been working with other music bands, but, as she confessed, for the first time with Ukrainians. Besides the album cover, she’s also created the arts for our merch, which depicts the story of “Margarita”, one of album songs. The interesting thing is that Anna first paints the natural pictures, and after that transposes those into a digital format. The original paintings of both IMMD arts are available for buy and can become a good garnish for the most persistent fans’ walls :)
Titlewise, we were looking for a neat and clear word or phrase. And we’ve found the solution in combining two most meaningful words for an album: “mystic”, which is clear, and “misto”, which is “the city”, transliterated from Ukrainian.
How was the shooting of the clip GOSPODAR ? and why this choice ?
Our official video was directed entirely by Tementiy Pronov of SLIPPY INC production, who’s managed to embody the vibe of modern mysticism. We’ve had a positive experience working with him on other projects, so we could trust him. Kyiv hippodrome has been chosen as a location for filming. As special guests we’ve got the artists of Kyiv theatres: the violinist Maria Marchenko of Kyiv National Academic Operetta’s Theatre and the pair of ballet dancers of National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet named after T.G. Shevchenko in Kyiv (decided to stay incognito).
What are your projects ?
Our collective mind is always full of ideas, and we continuously work on new stuff. Unfortunately everyone is limited in time and stock, so we have to choose the most actual things (songs, videos, gigs) to deliver, and publishing the bravest plans is not the cleverest thing :). However we are doing our best to increase the quality level of all the aspects of our works. So stay tuned and you’ll get something cool soon :)
