Hello friends ! We will discover the universe of DEEP SUNKEN EYES but especially their new album.
Present yourself to the readers
Hello there! I am Erik Cervini, guitarist of Deep Sunken Eyes. We are a Progressive Metal band from Uruguay heavily influenced by the Djent style.
What’s the story for INNER CYCLE ?
"Inner Cycle" is a concept album that tells about the duality that a person in conflict faces caused by a experience of grief and loss. On one side, there is the possibility of surrendering, while on the other side, there is the sacrifice of overcoming and moving on. Eternal cycle of rediscovery and self-improvement. We only can really build and rearm ourselves when we manage to destroy everything we had.
Who composes ?...How does it work in the band ?
Along the years the process of composing music basically has been strongly related to recording some kind of demos. Sometimes a song may start with a riff or a drum section of sorts, and from there we begin to try different things. We listen a lot what we have at that point and if it's necessary we make modifications. All the instrumental recording is done in my home studio, and the dynamic is generally meeting with the other guys and work out some section of the "songs in process". We consider that one of the most importants aspects in our creative process is this kind of « post production » stage.
Who writes the texts ?..What are they talking about ?..How does inspiration come ?
Our approach to writing lyrics is quite odd, to be fair. We like having the melodies beforehand, and so Jorge (aka « Colo ») records the voice as melodies without any real words in them. Once we have that, we decide what we want the song to be about and start writing. In particular, all songs within Inner Cycle revolve around the emotions and thought processes product of anxiety, pain, and self-destructive conduct and feelings. It was mixed and mastered by Fabián Machado at Attic Audio studio.
Why the name DEEP SUNKEN EYES ?
The name is from the Shakespeare's sonnet II. It represents the decay caused by time and the beauty of the birth of a new life. This new life for us is our music. Time could take everything from us, but nothing can take our music.
What are your personal musical tastes and your influences ?
We really listen to any kind of music. But particularly draw inspiration from listening to Periphery, Veil of Maya, ERRA, Volumes and Monuments. The last year we had the opportunity to meet and play with Monuments here in Uruguay, a life-changing experience.
