Hello! We are Gwendydd. We are a female dominated metal band from Sofia, Bulgaria created in 2018. Our music is a combination of quite heavy djenty guitar riffs, melodic slow parts and thought-provoking dark lyrics striving to make the world a better place.

What’s the story for HUMAN NATURE ?

Human Nature is our debut album. It’s a way for us to express and reflect all the negative sides of humanity in both social and personal perspective. The story of Human Nature is pretty much what the title states. The nature of people in different perspectives and situations. There is an inside joke between us that it is a concept album. If you guys manage to figure out what we mean, let us find out. ;)

Why the name GWENDYDD ?

GWENDYDD is said to have been the twin sister of the great magician Merlin. Different stories may present her as his lover or wife also. As Merlin was trapped by Nimue inside a tree, he passed along all his knowledge and power to Gwendydd so she kept all of Merlin's secrets.
To be honest, we were actually looking for a name that is not taken haha. We wanted it to sound brutal but also feminine in a way. We stopped on the name Gwendydd. We all liked it and it also looked perfect in a visual perspective as a logo. We also liked the story, so we all agreed it was perfect for us.

What are your personal musical tastes and your influences ?

We all have various tastes in music. That’s what makes it so special. When we all combine our different tastes and ideas we create original music that we all like and see ourselves into. Our influences can go from brutal death metal to progressive so we can’t really put our influences in a few words.

In studio, what was the atmosphere for the album ?...etc.…

Well it was actually quite… interesting, as we had a deadline for recording the whole album as we had set a local tour in support of Human Nature beforehand. It was an unforgettable experience full with funny moments, exhausting ones at times, but overall we all had the same goal - to make the album in the best possible way, so we worked hard and our work paid off.

How does it work for the design of the CD ? and why this title ?

At first we weren’t sure what the theme of the album actually was. But when we looked through the lyrics and the overall atmosphere we all agreed on the fact that the album had quite of a post-apocalyptic dystopian feeling and all the lyrics reflected some negative aspect of humanity as a society and individually. So we decided to name the album after one of our tracks, which became the title track - Human Nature. As for the artwork - again, after we had agreed on the post-apocalyptic theme and the title Human Nature, we started searching for the same kind of artwork. We worked with our designer on it and we think it came out perfect.

How was the shooting of the clip SUICIDE ? and why this choice ?

We shot the video for the song Suicide a couple of months before we started recording the album. At the time it seemed like the best song for a music video and we all liked it a lot. It is also with a controversial title, so what better to ask for? :)
As for how the shooting went - it was again, quite interesting. We had problems with the electricity and with the water in the bathtub. Those were two long days but they also had their charm. We worked with professionals and everything was really well done. Again many funny moments, many hard ones, but that’s what means to be in the show business. You mustn’t give up before any obstacle. The video turned out to be extremely good and people like it. So it was all worth it.

What do you expect from the future ?

We hope it will be a bright one. We have a plan for releasing new interesting content during the COVID-19 outbreak and we also have plans for when it ends. So we hope things will work out good. We are striving for bigger stages outside of Bulgaria and we are positive we will succeed in our venture.
