We are Deathing and we don't play rock'n'roll.
We have been playing more in the same rehearsal places and same projects more or less since 2006 so it was pretty natural for us to band up as we know each other well. Originally started as a therapy project between Mikko and Marko back in 2014 after their previous band folded. Marko dropped the bass for guitar and after a while the band went from duo to trio and soon after became a full quartet.
What’s the story for ALL HAIL THE DECAY ?
We made the songs just for fun between the two founding members at the start and we obviously had great chemistry as we had been the rhythm backbone of our two previous projects for the past eight years. We played the songs for a quite long time at rehearsal place until we decided to show them for the rest of the world.
Who composes ?...How does it work in the band ?
The riffs have been brought by Marko, then compiled with Mikko and perfected with the rest of the band. The latest member Aleksi is also a potent riff maker so the material will be even more diverse in the future.
Who writes the texts ?..What are they talking about ?..How does inspiration come ?
Everyone in the band has the chance to contribute to the lyrics but on this EP it's 3/4 from Mikko and one from Marko. Mikko's biggest inspiration is the violence, reluctance and cruelty of human race. Marko has had more of a smaller scale approach of inner dialogue of disturbed minds. Both are fans of dystopia and also occasionally venture into scifi territory.
Why the name DEATHING ?
The idea for the name came from Aleksi while brainstorming different options and combinations with the whole band. The name fits the music perfectly and is instantly memorable.
In studio, what was the atmosphere for your new E.P. ?...etc.…
The tracking sessions went really smoothly! We got amazing spark out right from the drum tracking which carried the whole process. It also helped that we have been playing these songs for so long. Marko demoed the songs with guitars, bass & click for Miksa to perfect the drums at home, which worked in all it's simplicity.
How does it work for the design of the CD ? and why this title ?
The design of the EP cover really reflects the music and the message within. "All Hail The Decay" really sums up the song quartet perfectly as a whole.
How was the shooting of the clip CRASH & BURN ? and why this choice ?
The video session was extremely fun! Marko had a simplistic vision of a paper-pusher worker crumbling under the stress of modern meat grinder of a work environment, which was masterfully captured with playing sequences by awesome visual maestros Allan Välimaa (Re-Armed, Blackment) and Mikael Björkman. A setback almost derailed the whole session as one of us got really sick just before the video shoot but with some improvising and rescheduling we prevailed!
With Management and booking, how do you work ? And with whom ?
As we were approaching the planned release we contacted Inverse Records as we had previously worked with them with success (Marko&Mikko with ex-band Ruindom and Marko&Rami with their other band Bloody Falls). Guys at Inverse were really convinced with the material and the rest is history! Surely looking forward for further collaboration with them.
What do you expect from the future ?
We are hoping to get together again soon to start creating new awesome material! Marko already has a handful of promising riffs in his pockets and Aleksi also has amazing riffs demoed. Also waiting for the coronavirus situation to calm down to get gigging!
What's your motto ?
NO WE CAN'T. A rather humorous punchline that came up somewhere along the way. We don't take ourselves too seriously. The main thing is to have fun!
