What’s the story for SYNCHRONISM ?

The shortest answer would be „life itself“. It is not a concept album, but at some point during the songwriting process, the term “Synchronism” appeared in my mind and I found that most of the songs aligned themselves naturally. The last few years have been marked by synchronism, be it in our personal lives, in our songwriting, or in the collaboration in the band as well as in observations of a much larger universal context. It suits our phase of life.

Who composes ?...How does it work in the band ?

Daniel and I write the songs and have been working together for ten years. After being in bands with various playing styles we realized we needed to go our own way. We noticed that we complement each other very well and tried to combine our strengths to form our style. It all begins with Daniel's musical ideas and riffs. I try to pick up the mood and get involved. We both have the opportunity to record, can develop our ideas and exchange the files. The song keeps evolving, and sometimes in unexpected directions. This approach has worked well, therefore we will probably continue to do so. It’s not easy to find musicians with similar goals and passion. With Chris Deml on bass we have found a very committed and great guy to pursue this path. Chris joined us as a band member in October 2018. Since then, he has provided us with good feedback. He also created our beautiful new homepage.

Who writes the texts ?..What are they talking about ?..How does inspiration come ?

I’m responsible for the lyrics, words have always been important to me.
I prefer topics that I have experienced myself, or have witnessed in other people’s lives, especially something I struggled with or learned from. The content is usually melancholic with various shades of suffering but also lighter positive thoughts for encouragement. « Echo Of Fears » is about the cronies in power who cause
confusion with their selfish decisions and trigger fears. "What Remains" deals with questions such as "what is really important” or “what matters in life". With words like "Do you really want to be the plaything, instead of being life itself", I say that everyone can at least try to have a say in their lives. The chorus offers more considerations like "stony roads offer more chances to grow" or easy ways are not always the best, which may be consolation in harsh times. « Synchronsim » is a huge topic with many facets. I like it when the listeners find their own stories and interpretations in my words and are stimulated to think for themselves.

Why the name MIRACLE FLAIR ?

It wasn’t easy to find the perfect name and we thought a long time until we found it. We wanted to keep it open, to leave space for interpretation and create something positive. Despite the melancholy, pounding beats, hard riffs, pain and suffering in the lyrics, there’s always a glimmer of hope and the love of life. The choice of the band name is even more important than I thought at the time. There is not a single day when I do not deal with it in writing, reading, or at least mentally. After all these years we are still happy with our choice.

What are your personal musical tastes and your influences ?

Musically, there are many influences in our songs. Daniel and I grew up mainly listening to Rock and Metal. Later on we both studied at and graduated as music majors from a Jazz-School. Miracle Flair is the result of our years of musical activity in different styles and projects. At the moment I like modern and melodic bands like: Disturbed, Amorphis, Stone Sour, Dark Tranquillity, Trivium, Alter Bridge, Evergrey, Muse, Moonspell and Dream Theater. It has to be musically interesting and contain cool riffs and lots of melodies (if not in the vocals then in the music itself). I love combinations of power, harshness, and beauty, and I really like progressive elements.

It started when I was a boy with my first tape from AC/DC. I was fascinated by the metal bands of the 80s. Bands like Dokken, Twisted Sister, Ratt, Deep Purple, Whitesnake, Ozzy Osbourne, Ronnie James Dio and Kiss were my favorites. Others came later like Megadeth, Metallica, Dream Theater. I recently started listening to vinyl again and the first thing I bought was a couple of albums from the past: Dire Straits (Communiqué), Deep Purple (Perfect Strangers), Chris Rea (On The Beach), AC/DC (Back In Black) and so on. But I really like the current album from Amorphis « Queen Of Time » and also listen to many other modern metal bands.

In studio, what was the atmosphere for your album ?...etc.…

Synchronism is already the third album we recorded with Tommy Vetterli. We complemented each other very well and we knew how the workflow and steps of the whole process would be. We are all focused, very goal-oriented, and passionate about what we do, and want the best out of everything.

How does it work for the great design of the CD ? and why this title ?

Stefan Heilemann is responsible for this wonderful artwork. As with our last album „Angels Cast Shadows“, we wanted something strong but not destructive, mystical and dark with a hint of hope, light and shadow. Stefan and I exchanged our thoughts about our personal interpretations of the album title. Additionally, I sent him a few songs from our pre-production to create a vision of our world. But still, when we saw the cover for the first time, we were really amazed and happy with the result. Stefan nailed it in a very artistic and stylish way.
The lyrics of the title song summarize so much, it became clear that this was the perfect title for our third album.

How was the shooting of the clip THE UNTOLD ? and why this choice ?

That was fun! It was exciting to be part of a bigger process. The decision wasn’t easy because each song is unique in its own way. But we finally chose “The Untold” it has complex rhythm changes and an interesting arrangement, and it’s a bit more playful but still strong.
