We are Oniromantic, a band born in Milan in 2009. Andy - the guitarist mastermind - and Tia - the drummer coming from the death metal band IRA - meet Mauro, a singer coming from the power metal band Evilfire. Silvano, former IRA, is the second guitar and one year later Elia, bass player also former Evilfire, joins the band. In 2012 Oniromantic publish the first album called “The White Disease” a mix of heavy and gothic metal, where the doom and darkest side of the band starts to take form.
Silvano leaves and the band members, facing a difficult personal period, work on “Eudemonic” (the search for happiness), released in 2015: a dark, complex, painful and struggling concept album.
The arrival of Marco - an old friend - as the new guitarist, is the sparkle restarting the fire, bringing fresh new energies to the band. From that moment on Oniromantic is focused on the creation of “Chaos Frames”....

What’s the story for CHAOS FRAMES ?

The third studio album is the result of what happened so far. The renewed energy and the overcoming of personal experiences, mixed with more musical maturity, lead to the composition of their best album so far.

Who composes ?...How does it work in the band ?

99% of the music comes straight from Andy’s mind and feelings, translated with the guitar and synth. He sets the “mood” of the song, melting feelings and emotions through his music. The song “sketch” is then shared within the band, arranging it together. There Mauro “mumbles” the vocal lines with key words. Once the best line is found, he writes the words.

Who writes the texts ?..What are they talking about ?..How does inspiration come ?

Lyrics are on Mauro. He is also an illustrator and visual artist, thus the album covers are his artworks. Being the singer of Oniromantic gives him the chance to say all those things he doesn’t express with his visual art.
Lyrics are often about his personal experiences, or inspired by the music. When the words aren't autobiographic they are often based on band members’ biographic stories or events, Andy’s mostly.
The funny side is that, before becoming proper lyrics, the vocal lines are a meltdown of sounds and non-words that just give an idea of how the actual lyrics will be.
Only "The Cable" is written with Marco, setting the new starting point of the band.

Why the name ONIROMANTIC ?

Dreams are means of communication between ourselves and our subconscious. They lead us to understand situations that otherwise seem just like aenigmas to our eyes, putting us in distress. The oniromantic, in history, is the one who reads and interprets dreams, giving a sense to them. Our oniric dimension has always been strong, as individuals, so it came up pretty natural to choose this monicker.

What are your personal musical tastes and your influences ?

Hah! Tricky question… it is like to ask an hydra what’s its favorite food! Every head would reply something different (apart from the blood of some virgin princess, obviously! ☺)
Andy’s taste goes from Pink Floyd, that Marco dislikes, to Iron Maiden, to Esoteric etc. and stops a few decades ago, as nowadays he rarely finds anything he likes!
Mauro grew up with Queen, that Andy dislikes, and with metal bands such as Angra, Judas Priests (he and Elia also performed some tributes to them, LOL) and Pantera. His favorite bands are Nevermore, Dark Tranquillity and Soilwork.
Tia agrees with the last three ones, sharing with Mauro a couple of great live memories, and his musical taste goes beyond metal: he can also watch talent shows! Shame! ✠D.
Elia is the hard rock soul of the band! MrBig, Bon Jovi, Skid Row, Guns but also 70’s iconic bands (Deep Purple, Rainbow) up to HM acts as Rage, Queensryche etc.
Marco closes the circle adding an american taste, sounding like Metallica, Black Stone Cherry, Black Label Society…and Timoria, from Italy.

What's your best live memory ? And why ?

A gig we played back in 2014, after a long stop. Awful sounds, due to a non-sound technician and a lot of technical difficulties... but we were so stoked, and there were so many people, so many beloved ones, that we still feel the heat of that night!

In studio, what was the atmosphere for your new album ?...etc.…

We worked a damn lot! But also had a lot of fun, even if we are getting too old for some stuff (flirting with an average of 40…). We’ll never forget the breakfast at Bios Studio with Luca Liviero, our supreme sound Master! He did such a great work recording, mixing, editing and most of all taking the best out of all us, becoming the sixth member of the band.
We also had the chance to work with Katya Bannyk, a cello professional player, who added even more drama and feeling to the songs, recording everything in just one session.

How does it work for the great design of the CD ? and why this title ?

About the “Chaos Frames” cover: it represents the cosmogony of Chaos as in Greek mythology. Chaos is the emptiness, the vast void who gives birth to Tartarus (crawling down), Gaia on the left and Eros on the right. In the middle Erebus and Nyx embrace, giving birth to Etere and Hemere, surrounded by, from left to right, Charon, Hypnos, Thanatos and the three Fates.
Mauro, the singer, drew it taking inspiration from the works of different sculptors he respects, painting a dark, epic and detailed illustration that perfectly represents the mood of the album.

What are your projects ?

Obviously to get "Richie Rich rich" thanks to Chaos Frames! XD
Meantime we are planning to release two or three videos from the album, then we’ll see… we may have surprises.

What's your motto ?

“Love your Chaos”, for it is part of you. If you deny it, or try to hide it, you’ll implode.
Some of us has this tattooed on their skin, with ink and scars.
